November 13, 2011 - The Troy Community Baptist Church Bible Explorer's Group submitted the following which was written by Raul Foote, one of the youngsters in the photo. They gave 8 large bags of crushed aluminum cans to KPFL to be recycled.

PETS for LIFE by Raul Foote - The Bible Explorers are collecting aluminum cans for Kootenai Pets for Life Animal shelter. We will take the cans to the shelter and visit the animals there. They will recycle the cans for money used to spayed & neuter the dogs & cats. It is very important to have your dog spayed or neutered. There are a lot of dogs that nobody wants. People give them away, they donÕt want them. I would not want to be one of those dogs. All dogs and cats need a warm house and family to love them. Th
rough an anonymous donation  Jasmin Larsen and Roseann M.  Amos  have each received a $2000 scholarship to the educational institution of their choice.  These scholarships came anonymously through Kootenai Pets for Life in recognition of their hard work and dedication to the care and wellbeing of the animals at KPFL.  The anonymous donor  observed these young women at the KPFL Shelter during their volunteer service.  They have both been long time volunteers and both have been outstanding in the hours they have volunteered and the care they have shown with the animals.  KPFL was merely the means to facilitate the anonymous transfer of these funds.  No funds raised by the Kootenai Pets for Life volunteers from their hard work and many fund raising activities have been used for these scholarships.

Kootenai Pets for Life is an all volunteer, non-profit, no-kill Shelter for the stray and abandoned pet population of the Libby/Troy area located at 135  County Shop Road in Libby.  All animals taken in the the shelter are spayed or neutered and up to date on shots before being released for adoption.

If you are looking for a pet or would like to volunteer to help, please stop at the Shelter or call 293-5735(kpfl)

Kootenai Pets For Life looks forward to 2011 - March 8, 2011

As KPFL looks forward to serving Lincoln County in its second year at its new facility at 125 County Shop Road there are many things for its supporters to be proud of during its first year.  KPFL is celebrating the ability to offer spay/neuter services on a monthly basis in their own clinic.  During 2010, 622 animals were spayed or neutered bringing the total number of animals spayed or neutered through KPFL since 2002 to more than 4,200.  All animal owners are encouraged  to have their animals spayed/neutered by their veterinarian.  If someone needs assistance they may contact Terri Turman (291-0711) to learn more about vet services offered through KPFL.

KPFL  recognizes the community support it receives from Libby and Troy.  In 2011 Susan Castanada joined KPFL as its newest board member. Darlene Hammons , pictured above, makes handmade, home grown, catnip filled toys with ribbons and bells which sell two for $5.  All proceeds go to KPFL.  The catnip toys can be purchased at the Shelter or from Darlene Hammons at 293-5801.    In 2011 KPFL has also  received  national support for their efforts.   A Pedigree Foundation Grant allows one-half price adoptions for dogs.  This support  offers dog adoptions at $30.00 instead of the regular fee of $60.00.  With another grant Cat adoptions are also one-half price ($12.50 instead of $25.00) until the grant monies are used up. All animals  adopted from KPFL have  been spayed or neutered and have some  vaccinations.  During January 2011 KPFL took in 13 animals and adopted out 33 animals.  Thanks to loyal supporters and dedicated KPFL volunteers  there have been 1849 animals adopted since 2001.

KPFL and Lincoln County are working together to make Lincoln County better for animals and people.  KPFL now takes in almost all animals being turned into Lincoln County Animal Control and sees that all animals are spayed/neutered before adoption.  The County supports KPFL¹s spay/neuter program and provides extra monies through the County¹s aluminum can recycle program

Quilts for Cats

During Be Kind to Animals Week (May 2-8), or until our supply runs out, a beautiful cat-approved quilt will be supplied with each adopted cat at Kootenai Pets for Life. These quilts were handmade by Barb Hoeltzel for our special cats and kitties who are awaiting adoption.

KPFL has many amazing cats who will brighten the lives of their new families. There are cats who love to look beautiful, cats who crave petting, cats who like to carry on conversations, and cats who would love a barn or shop where they could perform rodent control. In other words, KPFL has a full selection on delightful felines just waiting for a forever home.

If you are interested, you can contact Kootenai Pets for Life at 293-5735 or visit us at the shelter on the County Shop Road
