Please be kind to your pets. Cold weather affects our pets as well ourselves. Pet owners need to take a few common sense precautions to safe guard their pets against bitter cold temperatures. Despite their "fur" coats, cats and dogs depend on humans for protection from elements such as freezing temperatures. |

The Humane Society of the US Recommends: Don't leave pets outdoors when the temperature drops below freezing. Dogs need outdoor exercise but take care not to keep them out for lengthy periods during very cold weather. Short-coated dogs may feel more comfortable wearing a sweater during walks. Dogs and cats are safer indoors in all sorts of weather. Wind-chill can threaten a pet's life, no matter what the temperature. Outdoor dogs must be protected by a dry, draft-free doghouse that is large enough to allow the dog to sit and lie down comfortably, but small enough to hold in his/her body heat. The floor should be raised a few inches off the ground and covered with cedar shavings or straw. The house should be turned to face away from the wind, and the doorway should be covered with a flap of heavy waterproof fabric or heavy plastic. Pets spending a lot of time outdoors need more food in the winter. Keeping warm depletes energy. Routinely check your pet's water dish to make certain the water is fresh and not frozen. Use plastic food and water bowls rather than metal; when the temperature is low, your pet's tongue can stick and freeze to metal. |

Who says cats and dogs don't get along? Molly, the beagle mix, and the kittens Beau and Belle along with their mother were adopted by one family. Never a dull moment with this bunch! If you have photos of your adopted pets, please send in your story along with your photos. We love to share them. E-mail |

Photos and descriptions of the pets we have available for adoption can be seen by clicking here. Information on individual animals is at the bottom of that page. Our on line photos are not always up to date so please call and make an appointment to see the dogs and cats available or stop by the Shelter when we are open. We usually have many that are not on line with photos. We have puppies and other dogs not seen on line. If you can't adopt at this time, could you foster a pet in your home until we can find a permanent home? If you can, please e-mail. If you can't foster, could you spend some time at the Shelter as a volunteer? We always need people to help with the animals - everything from cleaning, feeding, grooming, walking, and socializing the animals helps. If that doesn't work for you - how about office work or fund raising activities? Please e-mail if you can help.
