August 29, 2009

Kootenai Pets for Life has officially moved into their new Shelter located at 125 County Shop Road in Libby.  Saturday, August 22 was moving day for the cats and Saturday, August 29th was moving day for the dogs.  There is still a lot of finishing work to be done at the Shelter but the inside and outside kennels and fencing for the dogs and rooms for the cats have been completed.  The finishing work will continue as volunteers and funds are available.

The facility in Troy that the City of Troy has so kindly let KPFL use since the group was formed is now being used by Troy Animal Control only.  All KPFL intakes, adoptions, and other business will be conducted at the Libby facility.  Hours that the KPFL Shelter will be open to the public are: Monday-Friday 9:30AM -Noon and Sat & Sun 10AM-2PM.  Evenings hours can be made by appointment by calling the Shelter at 293-KPFL (5735).  You may leave a message and someone will return your call.

Volunteers are needed and welcome at the Shelter.  If you can volunteer, please call Tami at 293-8609 or Judy at 293-4936 and arrange a time for a short training program and to set up a schedule to become part of the KPFL team.  Walking the dogs and socializing the cats are both important in getting the pets ready and available for adoption, as well as cleaning and feeding.  People that cannot adopt at this time but would be willing to foster an animal are also needed.

The KPFL spay/neuter program is ongoing.  Every pet owner is urged to take their animal to their local veterinarian to have their pets spayed or neutered.  If you are not able to do this you may call KPFL for assistance.  Every animal that KPFL takes in is spayed or neutered before release for adoption.

Kootenai Pets for Life is a non-profit all volunteer organization providing services to the stray and abandoned pet population of the Libby/Troy area by providing a no-kill Shelter, pet owner education, and a spay/neuter program. If you would like to know more or if you would like to volunteer to help with the animals or in finishing the building, please call 293-5735 (kpfl) and leave a message. If you would like to send a donation please mail to KPFL, Box 1454, Libby, MT 59923.

This was our Shelter until August 2009. It was located in the old Troy Animal Shelter which the City of Troy so kindly let us use since our start in 2005. The City of Troy planned for this building to be torn down and the land used for something else. The Libby City Council gave KPFL us a site in Libby, approved a signed lease agreement and we have started construction on our new building.
