This is our current Shelter located in the old Troy Animal Shelter which the City of Troy has so kindly let us use since our start in 2005. City of Troy plans call for this building to be torn down and the land used for something else. The Libby City Council has given us a site in Libby, approved a signed lease agreement and we have started construction on our new building.

We Still Need Your Help

We didn't reach our goal of getting animals moved in before it the snow got too deep in 2008! Funding and volunteers were not there. We spent another winter in our poor, cold facility in Troy.

Our dedicated volunteers Jerry Jenks and Paul Roe have been leading the way in 2009. Recently they installed the soffits on the exterior, insulated the kennel, finished the clinic area (it could receive patients!), soil work was completed prior to forming the concrete exterior cat area & entry to 3 front doors. They have 90% of materials needed to finish carpentry work necessary to finish the kennel area and fiberglass reinforced panels and doggy doors. The rolling cart is trimmed & painted.

Next is pouring the concrete areas, attaching rock to front of building, install 4 cat doors, finish carpentry in kennel area including installing 10 doggy doors, pour retaining wall in dog wash area, trim interior once flooringdecisions are made, build cabinets & plumb 7 sinks, trim & side exterior, put up gutters and all the other miscellaneous jobs that come up on the way to completing the Shelter.

Anyone with construction skills that would like to volunteer a few hours or days to help  KPFL reach their goal should call Paul Roe at 293-2060 or Jerry Jenks at 295-4664 and leave a message.  Money and support are still needed to finish the outside as well as the inside of the building. Checks can be mailed to KPFL, Box 1454, Libby, MT 59923.

You can use any medium, crayon, pencil, markers, etc. Have your child or grandchild draw something. Sorry - no photos. You can do a computer generated design and send it in as a .pdf file or .jpg file. THE DESIGN MUST FIT ON A SQUARE.

Questions - please call Marge Sullivan at 406-293-5039 or e-mail.

Photos and descriptions of the pets we have available for adoption can be seen by clicking here. Information on individual animals is at the bottom of the page.

If you can't adopt at this time, could you foster a pet in your home until we can find a permanent home? If you can, please e-mail.

If you can't foster, could you spend some time at the Shelter as a volunteer? We always need people to help with the animals - everything from cleaning, feeding, grooming, walking, and socializing the animals helps. If that doesn't work for you - how about office work or fund raising activities?

Please e-mail if you can help.

Since the end of 2005 we have taken in, spayed or neutered, brought up to date on meds, and adopted out 1299 animals! We are a no kill shelter.

January through the end of December 2008, we facilitated the spay or neuter of 479 pets. The first four months of 2009 we have done 115.

Kootenai Pets for Life encourages everyone to take their pets to their veterinarian and have them spayed or neutered and to have their vaccinations up to date. If you are unable to do this KPFL, with some financial assistance from the County, is still actively offering a spay/neuter program. If you need help to spay or neuter your pet call 295-kpfl (5735) or if you can help fianancially mail your check to KPFL, Box 1454, Libby, MT 59923.
