RECESSION(ALLY) SPEAKING:  Our nation is economically challenged, evident in our number of adoptions between this year and the same time last year.  Fortunately, our sassy mutts are oblivious to the world of budget and finance... And that's just the way we like it!  As with many American families, we have tightened our belts, but the beauty in doing so is that we refuse to sacrifice quality of life.  So, while adoptions are down, simplicity and satisfaction are steadily rising.  To help reduce the load for pet owning families, I would like to share some of our cost cutting tips.

FOOD:  The most expensive food is not necessarily the best.  It is important to read labels and assess the nutritional content as compared to competitor brands.  Some generic brands are manufactured by the big name food companies and the only product difference is the package.  If you are satisfied with the brand of food you currently use, it may be beneficial to contact the manufacturer and ask for coupons.  Some companies have frequent buyer incentives and money saving coupons right on their website.

PREVENTATIVES:  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!  There are many flea products available - Going without is not an option!  The cost of a quality flea preventative is nothing in comparison to treating an infestation in your home.  Make sure your preventative is reliable.  Powders, collars, shampoos and sprays can treat an active problem, but may not be effective for long term use.  Proven topical and prescription products, while a bit more expensive, are a bargain in the long run.  Likewise, heartworm preventatives not only protect your pet from the complications of mosquito bites, but they prevent other more common infestations like hookworm, whipworm and roundworm.  Be sure to compare prices among retailers and online sources.

TOYS:  Have you priced dog toys lately?  Someone puts a little lead in the latex toy, the watchdogs blow the whistle and the "mart" triples the price for lead free toys!  Yes it happened, but that's an article for a different day.  Let's focus on the fun.  Fabric store fleece remnants braded or tied in knots make for outstanding toss and tug toys.  Simple or elaborate, kids and adults alike can have fun and be expert toy makers...  No experience necessary!  Your dog will crackle up for an empty plastic water bottle.  For extra entertainment place some dog kibble inside of the bottle and watch your doggie go to town.  Always remember to remove labels and caps first also, dispose of the bottles as soon as they are worn or appear punctured.

ENTERTAINMENT:  Spending time with your dog is always fun, free and the reason you have a dog.  Investing five to ten minutes twice a day on basic commands and entertaining tricks is fun for your dog, fulfilling for you and a great way to impress your friends.  A brisk walk?  I am still up in the air as to who benefits more, you or your furry conscience!  Makin' Bacon (flavored biscuits).  The Net is loaded with yummy, healthy treats you and your kids can bake with love...  Cookie cutter optional.  Dive into a warm bath...  Keeping your dog clean and groomed is an inspiring way to make your pal even more huggable.  Enter photo and story contests, which can be found all over the web.  You can show off your best friend and maybe even win a prize!

OUR CONTRIBUTION:  We are dedicated to alleviating the financial burden when adding a dog to your family.  Each of our adoptable dogs have been examined by our veterinarian, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, wormed and treated for illness.  For dogs above six months old, you will receive heartworm and Rabies certificates.  Our dogs are clean and parasite free and freshly manicured.  Each dog heads out with a bag containing dog essentials,  non essentials and just plain cool stuff too.  When you take your dog home, we provide breed specific grooming supplies, dental care products, educational material, age appropriate toys, transitional food, training treats and everything you need down to the collar, leash and tag.  Your adoption donation is the first and last expense...  The rest is in the bag!

THE DOG THAT'S RIGHT FOR YOU:  Our mission is to pair the perfect dog with the perfect family.  Since our dogs live indoors, house-training and manners are high on the priority list.  In addition, we focus on lead training and basic commands.  We know our dogs well.  When you inquire about a dog, rest assured we will disclose the good, the bad and the ugly.  We want each placement to be a well thought out commitment which starts by allowing families to make an informed decision.

Who We Are

Our mission is the rescue and rehabilitation of breeder dogs. Our time, money and effort is spent on the 4Rs Rescue, Retirement, Rehabilitation and Re-homing.  Most of our rescue pals come to us with baggage.  Commonly, they are agoraphobic and untrusting of people.  They are fearful of simple things like carpet, stairs, doorways, and toys.   Many are unfamiliar with the purpose of a bone or how to slurp water from a bowl. The biggest hurdle is bonding. We spend many hours a day giving individual positive attention, just to earn a spark of trust. Our greatest joys are the little things, the wag of a tail, a curious sniff, our first kiss! We pour our hearts into these rescue babies until they become the loveable, well adjusted couch potatoes they were born to be. We can't save the world of imprisoned dogs, but we CAN change the world for a dog...  One at a time...
