The Grant County Humane Society participated in the 28th Annual Flekkefest Parade. This event was held August 6th at 4 pm. Volunteers designed and created a float to encourage people to adopt animals that have been spayed and neutered. Pictured above are the volunteers. If you would like to volunteer to make a float, ride in one, or help out during next year's event. Please click here to volunteer. If you would like to become a sponsor for the Grant County Humane Society, next year during this event please contact us.

    Grant County Fair

Join us at the Grant County Fair located in Herman, MN. We will be located at the 4H Building. Enjoy playing BINGO All Day on Saturday. Bring your kids and have fun with the animals. Buy a Snowcone and cool down while you are there. Show your support and have some fun. The Grant County Fair is July 22 - 24.

    Petting Zoo

Once again the GCHS will sponsor a "Petting Zoo" in Powers Park during Barrett's Old Settlers' Reunion day. The special feature, weather permitting, will be a llama from Fergus Falls. Call the GCHS at 218-685-6220 if you want to bring a special pet. The date is June 25th, times: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (+ or -). And this year, the GCHS will be selling snow cones at the Star Bank.

The GCHS Board is puzzled. In fact, they are humming the tune and singing the words: O where, O where have the memberships gone, O where, O where can they be? Over 100 brochures and membership mail-in forms have been put up in various stores and other business establishments, but only 15 memberships have been received. Where do you suppose the rest are? Maybe being used as bookmarkers.

During the County Fair in July, the GCHS will be sharing the FFA building again, calling bingo, and selling snow cones. It is alot of fun, so call 218-685-6220 to sign up as a volunteer! And lastly, don't forget to check out the GCHS website at gchumsoc.petfinder.com/ or click to it from petfinder.org. Some changes have been made, including banners for various stores or other ventures which, if you purchase goods from them, the GCHS receives a donation from them. Target, Animal Attractions, PetCo and others are there.

So, how's that for a simple way to
    donate? written by: Sue C.

Squeaky Clean Cars in Elbow Lake

Together with youth from West Central Area Schools: Future Farmers of America, National Honor Society, and Future Career and Community Leaders of America, the Grant County Humane Society successfully completed their first car wash fundraiser. They used their squeegees and sponges to raise money for animal care in our community. Afterwards they enjoyed hamburgers and brats. Special thanks to all those who participated or donated to support the Grant County Humane Society.

    Family Day Brings Community Together

Family Day was a community event held in Barrett that brought families and non-profit businesses together. The event was held in the commons at the West Central High School in Barrett on April 1, 2005. Volunteers for the GCHS brought two cats for children and adults to look at and pet. Many families learned about our mission at Grant County Humane Society and that we are in need of more financial support and volunteer help. If you would like to make a donation or volunteer please contact us at 218-685-6220.

    Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting for the Grant County Humane Society, open to the public, was held on Saturday, February 17 at the Community Center in Elbow Lake. President Sue C. opened the meeting by welcoming old and new volunteers and members. Participants discussed membership drive opportunities, fundraising ideas, 2004 finances, and 2005 financial goals. Each participant had a multitude of ideas on how to improve the conditions of our current facility through fundraising. Near the end of the meeting current members elected 2005 officials and board members.
