If you were to ask me what I was
doing on August 1, 1998, I would have to tell you that it was the
day that changed my life. That was the day the whole family walked into
Petco in Brooklyn Park for miscellaneous items and walked out with a new
member to our family. The K-9 adoption was officially over but the staff
graciously allowed us to stay and play with a 7 month old Rottweiler
puppy. We were carefully watching the interaction between Waldo the
Rottie pup and our two young children to make sure they would be able to
bond.
This is a process that takes time and
we appreciated the patience of the staff for allowing us that time and
not pressuring us to make a quick or snap decision. We also needed to
consider the costs of owning another dog and whether or not he would
take to our already existing household that included a cat.
The staff assured us that all adopted
pets have a trial period in which to make sure everyone adjusts
properly. We took that puppy home that day and decided that his new
start with his new family would bring about a new name. We wanted to
keep a name that was similar to his previous name and our children
decided on Bruno.
Bruno has flourished in our family environment and is a wonderful
companion dog. He has graduated from Obedience 1 and Obedience 2 at the
Alpha Academy and he recently passed the AKC standard Canine Good
Citizen test known as the CGC. He has also been observing Pals on Paws,
a therapy dog group associated with Therapy Dogs International. Since
passing his CGC/TDI test, he is hoping to start making rounds with Pals
on Paws to the local hospitals and nursing homes.
Bruno is here today because of the kind work of the K-9 rescue
volunteers who saw the potential of this beautiful dog and decided to
take him out of the humane society and into their hearts and homes until
he could be adopted for life.
