adoption info

The Adoption Process:

  1. Fill out an Online Application
  2. We talk to you and check your references
  3. We bring the animal to your home to see how your family, including any current pets, interacts with you. We also talk to you some more. If you are not in the Grand Rapids area, we will ask for a seperate $20 fee for the cost of the home visit to cover travel expenses.
  4. If everything has gone well, and you still wish to adopt an animal from us, you will sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee.

Spay/Neuter Policy No adult animal is ever placed without being spayed or neutered first. If your new pet is under the age to be altered, you will have to pay a spay/neuter deposit or your vet will have to provide us with a receipt proving that you have prepaid the cost of the alteration.

If the deposit system is used, your deposit will be returned to you when the animal turns six months old and you provide documentation from your vet that the animal has been altered.

Our policy complies with a state law that requires this of all animal shelters. It is also to your advantage, since altered pets live safer, healthier, longer lives and are easier to care for. It also is the only hope we have of stemming the tide of thousands of healthy, loving dogs and cats who die every year or are sold for research in U.S. shelters due to the lack of homes for them.

For more information on the benefits of spaying and neutering please see Why You Should Spay or Neuter Your Pet courtesy of the Humane Society of the United States.

Our committment to our animals and you, our adopters
We will make follow up contacts with you periodically to see how your new pet is doing in its new home. We will also be here for you if you have any questions or problems.

We always aim to make every adoption a permanent, lifelong home. Should any unforeseen circumstance arise and you can not keep the animal, it must be returned to us.

To begin the application process now, please fill out an Online Application now.
