| Who We Are We're a small group of people who are tired of seeing good, healthy animals put to sleep at shelters due to overpopulation. We believe very strongly in spaying and neutering and require it of any pet acquired through us. We believe that every animal is special, but that doesn't mean it should be bred. Unless you are breeding high quality, genetically tested, registered, healthy animals that improves the breed, there is NO reason to breed. There are so many good, healthy animals being euthanised everyday. The Humane Society of the United States estimates that 8-10 million cats and dogs enter the shelter every year. Among these, 4-5 million are euthanized at the shelter. We hope to do our part to help this number decrease. | |
| What We Do We take in unwanted animals. Some are given to us by their owners who, for any number of reasons, do not want the animal anymore. Some come from different shelters in the West Michigan area. Many of these shelter animals are literally on death row, many to be put to death the next day. We give all our animals their shots and routine tests, deworm them, treat them for any medical problems, and spay or neuter them if they are old enough. Please remember, we are a group of volunteers who do this because we want to help end the suffering these animals endure. We don't get paid to do any of it. Please be patient if it takes us a day or two to get back to you -- we have other jobs, families to take care of, and lives outside of TLC. Unfortunately, we have to turn animals away occasionally if we do not have room for any more. If we cannot help you, we will try to direct you to someone who can. Also, we use foster homes so there is not one place for everyone to go see all our adoptable pets all the time. We try to have Adopt-A-Days once a month where all the animals will be together. For a schedule, see the events page. Saving the world 4 paws at a time!! | |
| "Kill With Kindness" bill - An act of Compassion At TLC we understand that there is a surplus of animals and that many of them have to be euthanised since they will never find good, caring homes. However, we also believe that if an animal does need to be euthanised, it should be done respectfully and the animal should not suffer in the process, but rather, be allowed to die peacefully. This is why we support the "Kill with Kindness" bill that will be presented to our congressmen. This plan would outlaw the use of Carbon Monoxide barrels as a means of euthanasia at the Federal level. Dying by the use of CO2 barrels is a slow, painful process for the animal. We get alot of our dogs from shelters that use this form of death. Some shelters even use drowning, shooting, and other horrific acts to end an animals life. We are hoping to make it a law that animals will be euthanised humanely by lethel injection. A shot of lethal injection only costs about $1.50 each, so there is no reason to make these poor animals suffer needlessly. If you are interested in joining with us to help make this a law please email us for more directions on who to write your desires to.
