Adopting One Of Our Cats

We have posted some resources to help you with the big decision on adopting a Siamese. If you are not familiar with the particular personality traits that make Siamese so unique please read our introductory primer on "The Siamese".

Next, please take a look at our Adoption Policies so that you are aware of some of the rules we use in our approval process. We also have our Fee Schedule posted on our site so that you are aware of the costs involved.

You have the option of either printing out this Microsoft Word document, filling in the blanks, and mailing it to us, or you can fill in the blanks in your word processor and email the completed form back to us.

It is necessary to complete the Application Process and be an Approved Adopter before you can select or visit with available cats. Submitting an application in no way obligates you to adopt from us, but does help ensure things go quickly and smoothly when you find the ‘purr-fect” companion to adopt. In addition, precedence is given to potential adopters in the order in which their completed application packets are received. A completed packet consists of: the adoption application filled out in its entirety, a $10 nonrefundable application fee, and our vet reference form which is filled out and signed by your veterinarian. We accept application materials by email, fax, or snail mail; application fees can be paid by cash, check, www.paypal.com (pay here if using a credit card or save us the transaction fee if you already have a bank account linked to your own PayPal account by paying here without using a credit card). Although we are happy to hold pieces of your application packet if they arrive by different routes (i.e. mail, fax, etc) please note that processing will not begin and the application will not be considered active until everything is complete.

The application process:
1) Application packet is received, checked for completeness, and assigned to a processor.
2) Processor emails the applicant an introductory letter, and also contacts the two personal references that are listed. Note: You will greatly expedite the application process if you provide email addresses for your personal references. Please be assured we never sell or give away this information, we use it only to contact your references once via email and have them complete our interview questionnaire. If our processors need to contact the references by phone there is usually a much longer lag time — we are all doing our very best, but we're all volunteers and as such must fit rescue work into the rest of our lives.
3) The processor contacts your veterinarian to verify the information on the Vet reference and to clarify any points in question.
4) You are contacted and a phone interview is scheduled at a mutually convenient time for you and the processor. This typically takes 30-45 minutes.
5) The processor compiles your file, along with their notations and recommendations, and it is sent on to our Operational Officer for final approval or denial. You will be notified by email of the final decision.

Application processing typically takes 7-10 days. After approval, you will be put in touchwith the foster parent of the cat(s) you are interested in to determine if that cat(s) is a compatible match for your household.

Please Note:
- We work very hard with you to find a match between a cat and you. Since we have the cats in our homes we have a very good idea of their personalities, quirks, and idiosyncrasies. The cat that looked so good to you in pictures may unfortunately not be the right match for your home. We do make every effort to match you up with the cat you want but please keep in mind that we reserve the final the final right to approve any particular cat to be adopted by you. If it turns out that the cat of your dreams is not currently with us, don't despair. As an approved adopter you have first dibs (determined by the date we received your complete application materials)on future cats that enter into our rescue. We also have a partner rescue, Purrs Abound. We have made arrangements with them that any adopter approved for us, also is approved with them. - From previous experience we would like to reiterate several points about adopting from us: Putting a cat's name onto your adoption application only notifies us of your interest in that cat, it does not guarantee you that cat if you are approved. We reserve the final right of what cat may be appropriate for your home. Again: even if you have a higher priority (by date of complete application packet received) than another interested adopter, this only counts if we feel that the cat you want is appropriate for your home! We are not trying to be mean here. We have found out that unless these rules are made very clear from the expectations that are then not met, leading to hard feelings and disappointments. We really do try hard to get you the cat you want!

Our base adoption donation covers FIV/FeLV testing (any cat you see on our website will have tested negative), rabies and distemper vaccinations, worming, spay/neuter, and a health check by a Vet. Frequently cats come from shelter environments where they are infected by an Upper Respiratory Infection (URI). Any cats that we list for adoption will either be healthy (to best of our knowledge) or be in active treatment and improving. Any cat adopted from us will also be covered by Petfinder's limited pet insurance (check out ShelterCare).
