Identify the Clunk

If you answered the big scary Chow and not the tiny little beagle, you are correct. Why? Look closely at the two dogs' faces. The Chow has a big happy smile and an open, not-too-intelligent expression. The beagle, on the other hand, is looking shrewdly and slightly menacingly at the photographer. In fact, it wouldn't be taking it too far to say that there is a cold glitter in her eyes. There is nothing clunky about that beagle -- she knows the score, and in her worldview, we're the clunks.
What is a Clunk?

A clunk is a large dog whose dignified (and often magnificent) appearance is completely misleading. These dogs are often seen as somewhat intimidating until they are viewed in the home, where it is revealed that they are absolute goofballs.
Clunk Expressions

The best way to identify a clunk is through his or her expressions. Clunks often are referred to as goony or moony (never loony, though).
Other ways to identify a Clunk

When it comes down to it, clunks just want to have fun. While at home, a true clunk will always choose affection, play or downright silliness.

Your Dog Might Be A Clunk If...
  • If you know that a robber would be able to get away with everything in your house despite the presence of a 70-plus pound dog, chances are your dog is a clunk.
  • If your really big dog is bossed around by all the other dogs in the house, chances are that the big dog is a clunk.
  • If you ever feel slightly embarrassed because a big dog looks so foolish (for example, if you see one pouncing on a rice cake or snuggling a stuffed bunny), chances are, that dog is a clunk.
