Who We Are

The Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter (FAAS) is a non-profit, all volunteer 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing financial and volunteer support to the Attleboro Animal Shelter for the care and well-being of the hundreds of unwanted, stray and needy cats and dogs that annually pass through the shelter. On a daily basis, our volunteers provide these homeless cats and dogs with nourishment, medical treatment, affection, and most of all, help in finding a loving new home.

In 2006, nearly 400 abandoned companion animals - 280 cats and 107 dogs - looking for a second chance in life were successfully placed in loving homes through adoptions facilitated by Friends of the Attleboro Animal Shelter. We are looking forward to saving even more deserving animals in 2007!

The Attleboro Animal Shelter houses homeless cats and dogs for the City of Attleboro, Massachusetts. Our adoption fee is $120 for cats, puppies and dogs. Kittens may be adopted for $120 with a $30 refund upon proof of spay or neuter. Please make adoption fee payments in the form of check or money order only. The City of Attleboro cannot accept cash.

All dogs & puppies receive a physical exam, rabies shot, parvovirus shot, distemper shot, spaying/neutering, heartworm and seasonal flea & tick preventative, and worming (puppies only).

All of our kittens receive a physical exam and first set of shots. Adult cats receive a physical exam, shots with rabies vaccination, combo test for FIV/FELV, and are either spayed or neutered. Flea treatment, ear cleaning and nail trimming are included in the adoption fee for both cats and kittens.

The Friends of the Attleboro Animal Shelter values its volunteers tremendously. Without you, the Animal Shelter could not exist. We offer a wide range of volunteer opportunities. So do something you are comfortable with or try something new. Either way, we will train you. No effort is too small! All efforts are extremely appreciated!

General cleaning includes cleaning animal cages and floors and laundry (washing, folding and organizing) in the mornings and afternoons/evenings during weekdays and weekends.
Dog walkers / pet exercisers : What a great way to help a needy pet and get some exercise yourself! There are many great areas to walk in the shelter's area. Our pets need the exercise and socialization.
Training/socializing: Come spend some time petting a cat, or playing ball with a dog. It'll make you feel good and a lonely pet feel great! Training and socializing our pets make them more adoptable!
Fostering: Care for a pet in your home.
Follow-up phone calls: Either make calls from your own home or from the shelter to contact previous adopters regarding their adopted pets. Easy calls!
Maintenance: Light construction, small repairs, painting, etc.
Yard work: Weeding, raking, the usual yard work to make the shelter look good.
Other opportunities include fundraising, special event planning and organization, volunteer training and recruitment, driving Shelter animals to veterinary appointments, and special projects.

**Please Read & Follow These Directions COMPLETELY**

Fill out a cat adoption application, or you can pick one up at the shelter during adoption hours.
Bring the completed application to the shelter during adoption hours: Saturdays from 10am to 3pm, Sundays from 11am to 1pm, and Wednesdays from 6pm to 8pm. You can also fax it to 508-276-0444.
Your application will be processed and you will be notified when you can come pick up your new baby.

*Our kittens are not at the shelter, so we will need to make arrangements with the foster families. Apply now! They will all be spoken for soon!

Want to make a real difference in an animal's life? Consider being a foster family.

Foster families provide a loving home environment for our cats, kittens, puppies and adult dogs awaiting adoption. The time commitment varies from pet to pet, from a few weeks to a few months, or more.

Currently, we have several momma cats and kittens who need foster homes. We will provide everything needed to care for the foster animals - food, litter, a cage and any veterinary care. We would like to place only one mother and her kittens per home, and hope to keep them there until they are adopted out.
