PRNE has begun to build Jack's Guest House

It happens all too often--poodles have to be pulled out of a bad situation right away but there is no place for them to go. Volunteers have to stretch their facilities and juggle their time to accommodate them, but this is not an ideal situation, especially when the dogs are already traumatized. It takes time to arrange for foster homes where displaced dogs can be evaluated and receive medical aid, grooming and socialization. Jack's Guest House will ne an interim shelter for poodles that need to be removed from their current conditions before a foster home is available for them.

PRNE Director, Sue Matre, has generously offered a barn and several acres of land in central Massachusetts, as well as her time and expertise to build and eventually run the shelter. A generous donation from Jim and Joanne Halpin jump started the project, so the shelter has been named in honor of their toy rescue poodle, Jack.

The building has two levels The bottom floor will house kennels and a grooming area. The second floor will be a dry storage area to house all the things a kennel needs - blankets, food, crates, toys, etc. as well as the many items that PRNE sells at various events during the year. The property is spacious enough to exercise and train dogs. Inside the shelter will be warm, clean and welcoming.

So far, the estimates for only the foundation part of the construction are about $4,000. Mike Matre has volunteered to do the foundation excavation and other energetic volunteers will pitch in.
