Funding and Support for Our Programs
We have no paid staff and no office - we rely on donations, community support and volunteers. Your donations directly support our Fostering Programs, "The Purr Pad" at Jefferson Feed, Pet & Garden Center, the Shelter Dog Socialization Program, and office supplies to support our programs . Donations help pay for food, medication, health screening tests, spay/neuter fees not covered by the shelter, leashes, toys, and instructional materials.

Donate to Lucky's Fund - Lucky's fund is a fund for highly adoptable animals from the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter who need more medical care than the shelter can offer (i.e., surgery). The fund was named in honor of Lucky whose will to live inspired the fund. Send donations marked "Lucky's Fund" to Friends of the Jefferson Animal Shelter
Adopt-a-Cage - NOTE: All cages are "adopted" at this time. Adopt a cage at our offsite adoption center, The Purr Pad at Jefferson Feed, Pet & Garden Center. A $100 donation to the Adopt-a-Cage Program sponsors a cage for one year. Your name will be placed on the cage as sponsor, and if you'd like an inscription (such as in memory of Fluffy), let us know. The adopt-a-cage program provides funds for the cats at The Purr Pad. These funds are used to microchip the cats, provide toys, and any medical care needed. Donations should be marked "Adopt-a-Cage" and mailed to Friends of the Jefferson Animal Shelter. Send us an e-mail along with your donation and we will send you a photo each month of the cat residing in "your" cage.
Fund-a-Fix - Spaying and Neutering our foster kittens before they go to their new home is a priority for our organization. Your $30 donation to the Fund a Fix Program provides funds to spay and neuter kittens. Your name will be placed on a kitten's web page noting that you provided his/her neuter/spay. Donations should be marked "Fund a Fix" and mailed to Friends of the Jefferson Animal Shelter. Send us an e-mail along with your donation and we'll send you a photo of the kitten that was spayed/neutered with your donation.
Sponsor a Pet - Each pet's webpage has a "Sponsor Me" link to make a donation through the Petfinder foundation. Donations are processed through Petfinder and forwarded to our organization.
Shop at the igive.com Mall, which has over 380 retailers -- when you shop online through i-give at a retailer through the igive.com Mall, the retailer donates a percentage of your purchase to our organization.
Send an e-gift certificate to help a homeless animal.
Donate an item listed on our Wish List
We are extremely grateful for support from Jefferson Feed, Pet & Garden Center which hosts Pet Adoption Days and provides supplies for our programs at a reduced cost. Also Lakeside Pets is a frequent contributor to our organization.
Many thanks to the veterinarians that provide services to our foster animals: Causeway Animal Hospital, Hickory Knoll Veterinary Hospital, Jester Veterinary Clinic, Metairie Small Animal Hospital, Prytania Veterinary Hospital, and Ark Animal Hospital. Also, Dr. Bernhard Mayer of Jester Veterinary Clinic regularly attends Pet Adoption Days to consult with potential adopters about the shelter pets available for adoption.
