IN BOB'S WORDS

During the last year we lost one of our favorite dogs.  His sudden death came as a shock to everyone.  Shorty was one of a kind.  He appeared to be a German Shepherd - Bassett mix or as we sometimes referred to him, a dwarf German Shepherd.  He was one of those rare dogs that got along with everyone.  He was an ambassador to the new dogs and to potential adopters alike.  Dozens of people offered to adopt him, but we never considered giving him up.

A Photojournalist, Kevin MacDonald, visited the shelter recently and wrote, "Almost all of the dogs are available for adoption, all except one.  Walking around the 80 acre farm, [Bob's] favorite dog Shorty stays by his side. While most dogs are either brought to Bob or dogs that he rescues, Shorty found Bob, showing up a year and a half ago, and choosing not to leave. 'He's just my constant companion and when you're working here on the farm by yourself it's sometimes nice to have somebody that doesn't argue with you, wandering around with you,' Bob said."

Shorty slept by Bob's bed.  He was the last thing Bob saw at night and the first thing he saw in the morning.  If you ever wanted to find Bob, you looked for Shorty.  If Shorty was at the barn, so was Bob; if Shorty was in the house, so was Bob; if Shorty was lying by a door, then Bob was on the other side.  When Bob left the farm, even for a short time, Shorty was the first being to greet him when he returned.

Shorty brought joy to our lives every day.  He was more than just a dog to us; he was a member of the family.  He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
