You may sponsor a specific animal if you wish or we will apply your gift
to the neediest dog or cat.
Many of our dogs and cats may be designated as "hard to
place" because they are mixed breeds, large in size, a breed that
is not popular, or advanced in age. Most people calling or coming
to the shelter are looking for, "a small house dog" or a Siamese or Persian
kitten. These kinds of pets are adopted to good homes with no difficulty,
and we always have a waiting list for them. We stress the good
points of medium to large breed dogs and domestic cats, and temperament test
them to determine the kind of family that would suit them best. We believe
it is not enough to just find a home, it needs to be a well-qualified, suitable
home where the pet will be treated as a member of the family. By sponsoring
one of our dogs or cats, you can help find a good home for them. Many
times the fact that an animal has a sponsor for part or all of their fee
acts as an incentive or allows a lower-income person to adopt a pet.
By being able to provide puppies with their first vaccine, we ensure they
stay healthy while awaiting adoption. Many animals are brought to
the shelter infested with fleas and intestinal parasites, which can literally
suck the life out of very young puppies and be life-threatening to dogs
and cats that are already weakened from starvation or mistreatment. Our
animals receive deworming and topical flea treatment, for both the health
of the animals and the shelter staff.
