PORTER COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER |
|
The Porter County Animal Shelter/Control provides public assistance in maintaining and controlling domestic animals. This department enforces vaccination, running at large, rabies, quarantine, animal cruelty laws and ordinances, responds to stray animal calls, animal complaints, bite reports, and animal emergency calls. In addition, the Porter County Animal Shelter provides temporary shelter, animal reclaims, rabies quarantine, adoption, and euthanasia services. |

Although we do euthanize when we are full, we do our best to adopt and rescue out as many canines/felines as possible. As most of you know, felines can become more abundant in shelters (especially in spring/summer) than canines do, so it is difficult to adopt all of them out before we get overrun. Check out our stats section and notice that in 2007, we did not euthanize any adoptable animals, which, although we do not call ourselves a “no-kill shelter”, we (in 2007) have conformed to the “no-kill” standard. |
