Have you ever thought you'd like to volunteer but didn't think you could or didn't think you had the time?
We have created a listing below to show the different ways you can get involved. This is not a complete list by any means but a partial list showing the many different ways that we need help.
We don't always need every type of volunteer at every moment, but if you let us know what you are interested in we can contact you when we need your help.
Shelter Cleaning and Care--Always our biggest need
We need people to help clean both the dog kennels and the cat rooms. We ask that those interested in this type of volunteer work be able to comit to volunteering at least one day (the same day) each week. The number of hours you volunteer on that day are up to you. We can NEVER have enough volunteers willing to help out in this way.
If you don't think you can handle the animals physically we always need help washing dishes, doing laundry and other light tasks.
Hauling Items
Often we have people call that wish to donate dog kennels or other large items. We need periodic help getting these items to our shelter. A pick up truck and the ability to do some physical work is a must!
Fundraisers
We always could use an extra hand at our fundraisers. We would ask that you help out in another way previously, or have possibly adopted from us before we will go as far as to hand you our cash box!
Cutting/Sewing Blankets
When we get blankets and sheets donated we often cut them into quarters to help make our laundry and folding easier. We always can use some help from anyone who can use a pair of scissors (and in some cases a sewing machine). This would be an at-your-leisure job.
Medical Help
We always can use volunteers familiar with drawing blood on cats and or dogs. We have the ability to perform the FIV/FeL and Heartworm blood tests at the shelter, but we often don't have enough people skilled to do this. This would be perfect for a vet tech, or former vet tech. Or anyone interested in taking the time to learn.
Physical Help
Periodically we have projects that involve a lot of physical labor (installing new stairs, pouring cement etc). At those times we need some good able-bodied help to make the project easier for all.
Hanging/Distributing Flyers
Sometimes we have special circumstances where an animal needs an extra special home. Or an animal is on the run and we need some extra exposure to help get it back to the shelter or back to it's home.
