Our meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. at the new facility. The minutes and attachments from January meeting were read and approved.

Marcia handed out statistic sheets and we reviewed them. She reported that a new van was being converted and would be delivered soon and that the Center had obtained a new "sterilizer" for the operating room. Many volunteers were helping at the Center but not as many inmates as in the past. She also said that she had sent out invitations for the dedication and made arrangements for Coca-Cola to bring drinks for the dedication and would order appetizers from Publix. Also, everything was set up for the joint rummage sale set for March 23rd. Proceeds from the rummage sale would be used to purchase the dedication supplies and food.

Marcia informed the Board that when she returned from vacation she leaned that a family dog that was being held at the Center because it bit someone and did not have a recent rabies vaccination was euthanized by mistake. Everyone was devastated that this happened. She told us that the Center was not allowed to close down when euthanizing was done so it was difercult to do when people were coming in and going though the Center. That particular day was busy with visitors and one employee was trying to handle the euthanization alone because another employee had to work with the visitors and another employee was working with the County Finance Department who had come to audit the books. The Center has a procedure in place to prevent this from happening, but it did not prevent it this particular time because everyone was trying to do too much. As a result of this incident, Chief Alexander has agreed to allow th Center to be closed for a few hours in the morning one day a week to allow the euthanasia to be done.
