His story:
The survivor.
This guy deserves to live just due to his love of life. He just does not get that he should not be happy because of all his problems. If only people were more like dogs I say! He has definite likes and dislikes, he just LOVES puppy milkbone biscuits and he really hates shots and poking (who wouldn't).
A little about Blacky, he is a 10 year old male poodle, very bad cataracts in one eye and lowered vision in the other. He has a collapsed traccheal ring which causes him to huff at times. He has just been diagnosed with diabetes insepides and we're putting him on a course of medication to see if it will help. He is in general bad health but all this doesn't matter to him, he is taking it on the chin. I think 'HE WILL SURVIVE'.
To top off the overall poor care this guy has had during his life, he was hit by a car in Miami and broke both the ulna and radius in his right front leg.
This little boy's medical bills are enormous because of the orthopedic surgery required to set
the bones in his leg and the various testing and general medical treatments (one thing at a time) he needs. Most things will get better with time and proper food/nutrition, care.
Inspite of all this, this is a game little dog. He follows me everywhere (I'm his foster mom so I don't mind) and he hobbles around to find his food and water.
UPDATE:July 16,2007, he had his cast removed but the leg may not 'make it', he goes back in a week for a check-up.
UPDATE: Fall 2008, Blacky is still with us, his leg has healed but other ailments are still nagging on him. He lives a quiet life in one of our foster homes and is a permanent foster (we will not adopt him out due to health). We do this when a dog is known to be near the end of their life. Dogs like this who have been through the ringer do not need the stress of changing homes, even if there was a willing wonderful home out there looking to help him out.
