Coastal Poodle Rescue is concerned about poodles and poodle mixes! We like all dogs but have focused on the poodle. When you review our main website or this petfinder site you will only see and hear about some of the dogs that pass through our care. Many dogs come in and do not ever get adopted. We can't know when we are called for a dog what the outcome will be. We take in as many dogs as possible given our volunteer base and finances. If you can help us, please do, we need foster homes, volunteers and funds.

 | Pillow came to us in Dec 2007, was stray at a shelter that had heartworms. She came into rescue and was had her first heartworm treatment. She had a rare reaction of some sort which caused weakness in her hind legs. She seemed to get along ok and was adopted in Apr 08. She came back into rescue in Sep 08 with a worse condition. She was taken to a vet where it was found a disc had ruptured and calcification was forming. Surgery is not a first choice for this scenario. She is a lively little doll baby at 3 yrs old and soft as a pillow (get it?). She can use a doggie cart, does well with her swimming therapy sessions (done is a bathtub or pool). She can deficate on her own but must have urine expressed, she will let you know when she has to go. The vet is cautious but thinks she could get better given consistent and constant therapy. We are sure there is a home out there for Pillow, we have placed dogs in much worse shape, she is healthy but has a disability. Vet bills are slowing down now that we know what to do and how to do it but donations are always needed when we have a dog like this. If you can ADOPT her, DONATE or SPONSOR her that would be great! ADOPTED in 2009! She is walking without the doggie cart and manages quite well, no reason she cannot stay or continue to get stronger/better muscle tone...you go girl! |
 | Miss Mazie Mazie is a 3.5 year old white poodle. She and her larger brother came into rescue when her owner was no longer able to care for them due to medical issues. She was a happy girl and other than a 'peeing' problem she was great. Most likely a UTI, we had it checked out during her visit to the vet for her checkup. She had a dental to make her teeth sparkling and more testing, we found out she has a kidney disease where she does not process protein properly in her system. She must urinate frequently and is on a medication and special diet which should help her symptoms. The sad part of this story is she has a life expectancy of 1-3 years depending on how she reacts to medication and how quickly the disease progresses. We have her up for adoption but with so many dogs in rescue right now, she will most likely not be adopted. There are a couple things to consider about this situation;
- one, Mazie is filling a precious spot in our foster system and can do that
for a year +, if there was someone who would adopt her that would allow another dog to be saved; and
- two, Mazie could use some special donations to help pay for her testing, special diet and medication.
Please consider sponsoring Mazie, but have no fear: she will have a good life whether she is adopted or not, the reason we know that is because CPR does not put dogs like Mazie 'down' just because they have an issue. We will care for her in a foster home until it is her time. Donations and sponsorships help us do this. |
 | Mojito is a good little dog, he has been with us since Oct 2008, was rescued from Hurricane IKE (hit Texas this past fall). He was never reunited with his owners. He was happy but scared as you can imagine. He needed some pretty hefty work but has come through it all with flying colors. He lost 5 teeth during his dental (had ROTTEN teeth in his mouth), sores/bug bites, as cyst removed from his leg and of course a Neuter. This 10 year old boy has been through the ringer! He has an enlarged heart, after the life he had which does not seem to be a great one, this is minor. He would like another dog/cat as a buddy he is especially fond of his new foster family (cannine, feline or human). He especially likes cats it seems. He is now READY for ADOPTION. Of course his medical bills were high and donations are what allow us to 'fix' a dog like this to get him on the road to a new forever home! Donate for him or Sponsor him to show your support for this tough little guy. UPDATE: Adopted SUMMER 2009. |
 | Suzy-Lu is a permanent foster that has been with CPR since 2006. She came into rescue and seemed to be a great 9 year old with lumps and bumps as some dogs get. Once she went to the vet for a check-up we found out she had cancer and was predicted to live 6 months or so. That was a shocker but we did not decide to put her down since she was still interested in life and seemed content with a quiet lifestyle. Now, 2008 is ending and we still have Suzy-Lu with us, her foster family gives her great care and know the day will come when she must go but she is still a content little dog. Here is a note from her foster mom: She loves to be with her people. She follows us around in the morning when we get ready for our day. She makes her daily walk about the yard and always makes it back to the doggie door. She sleeps until the kids get home from school and then she hangs with them while they do homework. She does not like to be left alone - if she wants to be with you and you are behind a closed door...she can practically shred the door when her nails. She is our very special needs girl who gets lots of loving because we never know which day will be her last. We love our little 9 lb. Suzy Lu. |
| Freddie and Lucky. | A common thread in two very different dogs. |
 | Beckham came into foster care in Jan 08. He lost part of his ear due to uncontrollable diabetes and pancreatitis. He is a large toy and just as lively as can be. His prior family did not know what was wrong and surrendered him. Because his diabetes was so long undiagnosed and treated and he is small he has has a rough road. Many many many vet visits later and several pancreatitis flare-ups later he is doing well and still lively. His condition can be managed but never cured, consistent diet and monitoring is needed to keep this guy on track and the flare ups will be less severe. His vet expenses have been quite high to say the least but he was a fighter and never lost the will to pull through. Now that he is under control, the flare ups are less severe but have to be treated ASAP after they start. Here is a note from his foster mom: Likes to play fetch with a small soft animal. Likes to chew on white nylabones. Likes to watch TV and will bark when he sees an animal he likes. Likes tummy rubbed. Likes to ride in the front seat of the car and usually just lies down. Will not get up on furniture. Best foster I've ever had. You will be lucky to be his permanent home. ADOPTED in 2009! |
 | Ginger Rae is a permanent foster that has been with CPR since 2007. She came into rescue and went to the vet, she is deaf and has sight-issues. She is too old and delicate to adopt out and does not really need to go through the transition of another home. Her foster family tells us this: She's not sick and is happy. She follows me everywhere and sleeps on our bed. She goes at her own pace but still goes. I have her in a sweater during this cold weather. Update: Oct 2009, Ginger Rae had had enough, she was ready to go to doggie heaven, she went peacefully. Donations allow us to help dogs like Ginger; she just needed a place to live when her original family no longer was there for her. |
