Who We Are
Welcome to Goliath and Be-be’s World where we believe that "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."We are a dedicated no-kill, not for profit pet rescue and sanctuary located in St. Augustine, Florida and founded as a 501C-3 tax exempt organization in November, 2001. Our Board of Directors and membership, however, have a long history in animal rescue, care, and placement. All Board members, foster parents, pet transporters, and adoption screeners are volunteers who give selflessly of their time, energy, love and money to ensure that the animals in our care are well provided for medically, physically and emotionally. Our adoption rate is 98%. Only 2% of our rescued animals await forever homes or are permanent residents of our sanctuary. This is no small feat since more than 818 animals were taken from the Jacksonville Humane Society between January and August of 2002. To date, we have rescued over 1500 animals from the Jacksonville Humane Society, and calls are constantly received from private sources as well, requesting refuge for abandoned and homeless animals of all kinds – from kittens and puppies and adult cats and dogs, to guinea pigs and rabbits. All breeds, all sizes, and all manner of lovely characteristics and physical limitations are represented and provided for at our shelter.
Nedra Wooley, President of Goliath and Be-be’s World, received the Jacksonville Humane Society's “Humane Animal Provider” award in 2001 in recognition of the work done by Goliath and Be-be's World in the rescue of animals that otherwise might not have survived. Nedra, along with Joyce Walker, is the co-founder of our World. Nedra operates the sanctuary which houses a myriad of animals who are difficult or impossible to place. The need for day to day operating supplies is extensive. Litter, feed, mulch, paper towels, cleaning supplies, blankets, repair materials for habitats, and medicines, are ongoing needs. Veterinary bills are, of course, an ever-present expense. Currently, we are investigating grant opportunities to help defray these enormous costs, but donations remain our sole source of funding. Thanks to the concern and care of veterinarians Dr. Gary Shelton in Elkton, and Dr. Wayne Tyson in St. Augustine, our animals receive the very best of medical care with consideration for our status as a volunteer group. Without their help, our animals could not thrive as they do.
Please consider donations, volunteer time, expertise, adoption and/or membership in Goliath and Be-be’s World.
Our World is a safe and exciting place to be.
