Hope Habitat
Small Animal Rescue Inc.
Meet Alex, one of our permanate residents here at the rescue.
Read Alex's blog.
We are a small 501 c 3 non-profit small animal rescue located outside of Milton Delaware.
We opened in 2002 to help the pets that are often considered "disposable" in today's society. These pets; rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, mice, rats, reptiles, turtles, birds, hedgehogs, ferrets, chinchillas, sugar gliders, degus, etc. have as much of a right to a second chance as do all the cats and dogs out there.
We are truly grateful to all the cat and dog rescues that tend to the many unwanted of their kinds for without them we would not be able to turn our focus directly to where we want. In the end we all have one goal in sight....find loving homes for the animals.
We do NOT take in wildlife but may be able to give you contact information on who can help you.

Over the past few months we have been working on may things here to help the animals and those around us.
Our "Mission Fish" Site
First is several items we have been posting off and on on ebay through it's "Mission Fish" program for non-profits. These items help raise funds for food, cages vet care and other necessities. Items we have posted in the past have consisted primarily of craft items but will also include donated items. Through ebay's "Mission Fish" program others may also elect to donate a certain percentage of their winnings from one of their auctions to our group. If you would like more information on donating items to us for our fundraisers or on donation through your own auction e-mail us and please put "Mission Fish Inquiry" in the subject or give us a call.

C.L.A.P. for Kids
Another program, which we are really excited about is our upcoming "CLAP for Kids" or "Critters Lending A Paw for Kids" program. Through this program we will be able to offer used computer systems to kids whose families would not otherwise be able to afford to buy them one. The first focus will be those kids interested in careers in animals and the sciences with any remaining systems being dispersed on an appropriate basis. These systems will be basic and may not necessarily have internet capabilities, so as not to burden the family with feeling they are required to get internet service. They will however be appropriate in teaching the basic computer usage skills. We are hoping to be able to get in touch with some software companies to get some educational programs and games for the systems but this part is still in it's early stages.
Acquiring a computer through this program can only be done through a recommendation by a teacher, church, state agency, or similar organization. We will NOT accept any private request for computers on this program.
If you have a computer you would like to donate or would like to inquire on making a donation for the operating system software we will be putting on most of these units (Windows 2000) please e-mail and put "CLAP for Kids" in the subject line or give us a call.
Donations are needed for our C.L.A.P. program to purchase operating systems for the computers. For just $5 you can help us give a computer to a child.

Protecting Paws & Claws
Our 'Protecting Paws & Claws' (PP&C) program was created upon meeting a dear friend of the rescues. She herself, being a survivor of domestic violence, shared with me her personal concerns for the safety of pets in these situations.
Hope Habitat's PP&C program helps pets (currently no cats or dogs) in need of temporary housing due to their families displacement from house fires or domestic violence situations.
If permanent placement is determined to be needed, we will work on placing that pet into a new home. The families in the PP&C program will not be identified to the general public to protect those that may be in a domestic violence situation.
This program is in NO way a free pet sitting service, so please do not ask us to watch your pet while you are on vacation as this uses up valuable resources.
**Foster homes are needed for these and many other pets**

If you need assistance in our PP&C program please give us a call (302-684-5099) as it will be responded to quicker.

We also are working on a sponsorship program to help care for the permanent residents that for some reason of another cannot be adopted, as well as some type of "Animal housing building(s)". If anyone has any extra lumber, building materials or even used/damaged sheds drop us an e-mail or a phone call.

And remember, we are a non-profit so your donations are tax deductible.
