A little bit about the mascots in our logo; Zeke, Yukon and Loki . . . .
Zeke is a wonderful black and white 3 year old boy with big blue eyes. He
has had several homes before he became one of the mascots for Polaris. Zeke is
very smart and thinks he is made of Velcro. He will cuddle for hours on end
and gaze into your face with his ice blue eyes and tell you how the world
should be. He is an excellent example of his breed.
Yukon is a breed standard black and while female. She has large deep blue
eyes and an enormous fluffy tail. She will hang on to your arm for hours, laying
on her back to have her tummy rubbed. She will push you if you stop the
massage telling you that this activity is not over yet. Yukon is very vocal and
will tell you the secrets of the huskies. She is a special and affectionate
addition to the Polaris pack.
Loki which means goddess of fire, was a beautiful red and white female and
had beautiful expressive amber eyes, and very large bones. She was the senior
member of the team and was recently lost to old age. Loki came from a show and sledding
background and was very strong. Loki will always be a member of the Polaris team.
Polaris Rescue hopes that you will enjoy this new look to our Web Site.
About us...Polaris (or the North Star) Siberian Husky Rescue was founded in 1987 by
Ingrid Simpson, when a very large husky named Kodi came to her house. Through the years we
have grown, helping more and more dogs find forever-families. Since 1997 we have been a
member of All Breed Rescue ,
which is a statewide non-profit organization of about 40 different breed-specific rescue
groups. We also hold a state license as a rescue.
Our dogs come from a variety of locations, including
shelters, strays, and private surrenders. Our motto is "We place dogs with families, not
families with dogs." We place dogs of all ages, but there is a prevalence of one to three
year old Huskies that come in. We have a number of foster homes for care and
placements.
Our Executive Office is located in Ft. Collins, CO but our available dogs are in foster homes
throughout the state of Colorado.
HUSKIES ARE NOT THE BREED FOR EVERYONE!
If you are unfamiliar with Huskies, please take the
Siberian Husky Profiler
before considering adopting a Siberian Husky. Devote a moment now to research and read all
the information on this breed on the
Siberian Husky Facts
page. See also the Suggested
Reading before embarking on your Northern Breed adventure -- it will save you lots of
heartache and headache in the end. Too often, Polaris is contacted by people needing to
surrender their Husky because they just weren't prepared to take on the responsibility of
these challenging, albeit wonderful, breeds. We want to ensure that all of our potential
adopters are well educated and informed regarding the true nature of the Siberian Husky
before welcoming a dog into their home.
When you are ready adopt one of our great dogs, take a look at our
featured Pet of the
Month as well as our list of
adoptable Huskies
(please keep in mind that the Sibes listed here may not represent all of the dogs we
have available; please call for the most current listing). Then simply review the
steps in adoption and fill
out our adoption application;
one of our volunteers will get back with you within a few days to begin the adoption process!
