About
Mutts & Moms
Every Mutt is one of a kind. Pure bred dogs all look alike but find
two mutts that look the same... impossible.
When a pregnant dog comes into a shelter, the story is almost
always the same. The puppies get adopted but the mom dog is put
to death. No one wants to adopt a dog that's just given birth. Month
after month, volunteers at shelters see mom dogs come into the shelter,
her puppies always getting adopted and the mom being destroyed because
her droopy sacks of milk were unattractive to the public. Few dedicated
volunteers or rescues have the time and funding to be able to take
them home, let the milk dry up, and spay the mom - and give her
the chance to feel and look like a brand new dog. Sometimes the
mom and litter are destroyed because the shelter does not have room
to keep them. It is an outrage that a mom dog could go through giving
birth, caring for her pups and then be destroyed. This is why Mutts
and Moms was formed.
"Mama
Noel was going to be destroyed on December 23, 2004. WI had sworn
off dogs for the holidays but when I went to bring the shelter employees
their annual holiday lunch, the kennel supervisor showed me Mama
Noel (I named her that) and she would have been destroyed in just
a few minutes so I took her. Once she regained her pretty figure
she was adopted by a wonderful woman in Pasadena. Mama Noel is an
example of what happens to the mom dogs in our city/county shelters.
They are destroyed because no one wants to adopt a dog with a sagging
belly. Mutts & moms is here to rescue dogs like her and give
them their well-deserved second chance." -- Mutts & Moms

In 2005, Mutts and Moms received non-profit status. All donations
are tax-deductible and the money is spent caring for and treating
sick and injured mutts and post-lactating moms. Mutts and Moms is
all volunteer, no one receives a salary.
Even though hundreds of dogs have been saved, there are too many
being destroyed daily in our shelters. Please spay/neuter your pets
and encourage everyone you know to do the same. Please do not breed
or buy while homeless animals die. There are many wonderful dogs
in our shelters and available through rescue groups. To rescue a
homeless animal is the greatest gift you could ever give or receive.
The love and devotion of a dog that has been rescued is unparalleled.
They know they have been saved. And their gratitude is unending.
I am only one, but I am one.
I cannot do everything
but I can do something.
And I will not let what I cannot do
interfere with what I can do.
