Keiko arrived on April 19, 2009. She was bright, cheerful, friendly and pretty. She would have been highly adoptable except that she's 13 years old. She'd had the same indoor-only home as a single cat all her life so this was a major loss for her -- her whole world was gone. Yet she adjusted to shelter life like a trouper. She was friendly, gentle and confident from the start. She was a very good cat in her old home. Her only quirk was that she preferred to avoid the toddler. She lost her home because her person moved to a place where she was not welcome. She would probably have preferred not to live with other cats, yet she has always been good among her roommates at the shelter. At first, she was always front-and-center to greet us when we arrived. As time passed, she began keeping to herself more, probably accepting that things had changed and there wouldn't be as much one-on-one attention anymore. There are so many other cats that an older girl like Keiko can't compete, either for a home or for attention. But she is such a wonderful little cat that we are hopeful.
Keiko's two videos below were made when she first arrived and show how
friendly and gentle she was even when she was new to the shelter.

Keiko has a new home. She's pretty, affectionate, well-behaved and
gentle so we shouldn't be surprised even if she is 13 years old. In the
end, it's impossible to say who will find a home soon and who will not.
For example, right now we have a lively, lovable, healthy, pretty, affectionate
black-and-white youngster named Bernadette. She's six months old and she's
been with us since the end of July. We're surprised she hasn't been
scooped up by some family before now. But we celebrate the good luck of
our less-perfect cats who get their chance! We're grateful to adopters
who see the heart of gold behind their imperfections. We're glad for little
Keiko, who missed having a family so much.

We had a short update from Keiko's new home. Her new person loves her
and calls her Lucky (because they were both lucky to have found each other).
