| Sara Poet of the Heart is a brave, sweet dog who was in service to a disabled veteran. She is now disabled herself. She must find a home with a human guardian angel or she will have to be put down.
Sara Poet of the Heart is a remarkable dog. She is a five year old, white German Shepherd, trained companion animal of a disabled veteran. While visiting Oxnard, CA, she was left alone in the motel room while her guardian was at his parents' 50th wedding anniversary. She was in a room for the disabled with a handle on the door on the inside instead of a door knob. She let herself out by pulling down on the door handle. A very smart dog, but unfortunately she did not know what the other side of the door would lead to. Sara Poet of the Heart was lost for 23 days. There was a small army of volunteers searching for her, but before she could be rescued she was hit by a vehicle. She suffered a spinal cord injury, along with fractures of the legs and pelvis. She is under in-house veterinian medical care in a Ventura, California hospital. Fortunately she is NOT suffering pain-wise. She is in good condition as far as her general health, eating and drinking, and in good spirits. But, Sara Poet of the Heart will never walk again on her own. She has been fitted for a doggy wheel chair (cart) and loves it. She takes to it " like a duck takes to water." Her personality is A+. She has a very loving disposition and loves to give kisses and get hugs. Sara Poet of the Heart's original owner will not be able to care for her. Being disabled himself, he cannot care for a now disabled dog. Sara's doctor cautioned that any new guardian must be capable of lifting and managing an almost 80 pound dog. She would need exercise (walks in her cart) at least three times a day, and her toliet functions would have to be managed manually on a schedule. Sara Poet of the Heart is a very sweet, loving and very brave dog. All she wants to do is give love and have love returned to her. Sara Poet of the Heart must have a new loving home. If that doesn't happen, then sadly Sara Poet of the Heart will have to be euthanized. Sara Poet of the Heart will be released from the hospital in about three weeks. We must find a loving home for her to go to.
