Many adopters need and ask for help teaching their dogs how to get out of the pool and/or swim. Needless to say, we rarely have time to spend a couple of days or even a day at homes scattered all over the valley to do it ourselves. Recently we sent out a flyer to a few people for someone who does just that for a living. One of the first people to use the service was Heart's Mom, Tracy. You might recall that Heart was pulled from a canal in Yuma on the brink of death having fought for a very long time to keep from drowning. Thus, he has never shown any interest in the pool.

HEART'S STORY

He has severe dysplasia on his right side and has been demonstrating some discomfort recently. I told Tracy that it would be great if he could do some swimming. Heart had his first of 4 lessons last Friday and did great with a life vest. Everyone was excited and surprised to see that he didn't panic, given his past water trauma.

The woman who does this was contacted by Channel 5 to do a water safety piece for them. They wanted to film her working with a green dog. She mentioned that there was a really great story with one of her newer clients and told them about Heart. This will be the 2nd time Heart has made the air waves:

UPDATE: Heart is now swimming with Tracy every morning before breakfast without a life vest...YAHOO!

JULY 2008
Rusty III, now Dusty, was running short on time as Apache Junction Animal Control was running short on space. We were not able to find a spot for him fast enough so we sent Danielle and her seven children directly to the shelter where they immediately adopted him. Dusty is doing great with his look-alike gal pal "Phoenix" as well as with the kids, cats and horses..a very busy and very happy boy now.
