NEW Covered outdoor kennels and GATE INTO SHELTER DOG PARK INSTALLED: Our shelter is improving its covered, outdoor kennel area with new kennels. In addition a large gate has been added and safe pathway will soon be constructed that will lead directly from the enclosed/covered back area of the shelter into the Shelter Dog Park. Volunteers and patrons will no longer have to take dogs to the Shelter Dog Park via the shelter's front door and down a risky unfenced slope to get to the park. These much appreciated improvements will particularly benefit those larger, energetic dogs who, in the past, did not get to go to the park. Now, We need more volunteers who have time during weekdays between 11:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. to give the shelter dogs a chance to run and roll in the grass. Exercise will help them tolerate all the time they have to spend in their kennels before they are adopted. Folks who work and would like to help could bring their lunch and supervise a dog in the park during their lunch hour. You get a break outside from your office and the dog gets much needed exercise and socialization which will make him more adoptable. OFF SITE ADOPTION MOBILE UNIT NEWS: Our Mobile Adoption Unit visited Tractor Supply in Sherwood Saturday, March 29, from 10:00-2:00. Thanks to the following volunteers who helped show animals at the mobile adoption event or helped Carla at the shelter so the shelter could remain open for adoptions: Pat and Bill Harrelson, Betty Ingram, Jean Hurst, Tiffany Welch, Brandy Freeman, Fran Cook, Madelyn Ganos, and Kathy Swift. Three kitties found new homes thanks to this event!

THANKS: We want to extend a very special "THANK YOU" to GROOMINGDALES on Hwy 107 in Sherwood. These wonderful groomers are donating one free groom each week for a dog at our shelter that is in need of a home.

NEEDED Volunteers to help with Web Page Design, to lend office assistance to the Shelter's director, and to do data entry & management. Volunteers who enjoy landscaping & gardening are needed to work with a Master Gardener as we develop our Shelter Dog Park and Memorial Gardens. The Shelter Animals need volunteers who will help with grooming and socialization.

Who We Are

We are a Municipal Animal Service Agency dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals through aggressive Ordinance enforcement and educational opportunities. We are advocates for Humane Issues. We promote the return of lost animals to their owners. If an animal is unclaimed or relinquished, we serve as an animal adoption agency. We are known for our cleanliness and helpful attutude, and we strive to provide the best care and treatment affordable for our adoptable pets. We work to make the selection process simple and to insure that you find a pet which you will love and treasure for its lifetime. We work tirelessly to better educate the public about pet ownership responsibilities.

Adopting a friend

When you find a pet which you think is suitable for you, your family, and your lifestyle, we require you to fill out an adoption application giving us information about you and how you will care for your new pet. All pets over 8 weeks of age are sterilized in our in-house clinic by one of our two licensed Veterinarians. Adoption fees are $35 for all animals--cats,dogs, kittens, and puppies. This fee covers the sterilization surgery, rabies shot if old enough at time of adoption, and one set of routine annual vaccines. We also worm our animals and do our best to ensure that we only offer healthy animals for adoption. We know that all adoptions do not work out for one reason or another. We strongly encourage you to take your time when selecting a pet. However, we will take back a pet when there are adjustment problems for a period of 6 months for non-Sherwood residents. If you live in Sherwood, there is no time limit.
