MERCY - ADOPTED 6/14/08!!

Mercy is a very special girl to everyone at the shelter! She was the victim of animal cruelty at a very young age - at only 2 months of age, someone cut off part of her back leg!!! Animal control determined who her owner was, took her case to court, and won!!!! Her former owner was found guilty of animal cruelty and neglect. Once Mercy was awarded to the shelter, the employees and volunteers raised enough donations to have her leg properly ampuated. She had surgery in May 2008, and was able to go to her new home 6/14/08!!

A note from Allie's mom:

Had to share this picture of Allie (Ginger) and my horse – they are best friends!!!!!
It’s actually strange but they really do look for each other!!! --- Michele

Allie was adopted by a wonderful family in Connecticut - they saw her on the internet and fell in love with her pictures! Special Thanks to Labs 4 Rescue in Connecticut and Rescue Road Trips for helping us get Allie to her new family!

FLIPPER & HIS NEW FAMILY @ PETSMART'S NATIONAL ADOPTION WEEKEND!

NOTE FROM THE SHELTER: Flipper is one of those special dogs that just tugs @ your heart! When he was born he did not receive proper nutrition from his mom, causing his front feet to appear elongated because tendons in his feet became stretched. He appeared to have "flippers" for his front two feet (thus his name!) Over time, his feet will become normal as the tendons tighten, but we were afraid that no one would adopt him becuase he was "different" -- his new family adopted him during PetsMart's Spring National Adoption weekend, and based on their shopping cart, it looks like he will be spoiled for life!!!!

HOPE WITH HER NEW FAMILY!

Hope, formerly known as Zelda came to visit us at PetsMart a few weeks after she was adopted! They decided to change her name to Hope because they said by adopting her, it opened up her space at the shelter, giving hope to another animal waiting for a home!!!!

TARGET!!

Target came to the shelter as a TINY puppy - he was very skinny, and missing most of his hair - we were told he was supposed to be a great dane, but we weren't sure! Well, 2 years later, sure enough, he's a great dane!!!!!!

MAX & BLONDIE

Hi Anita!

Thanks so much for the pics. I wanted to send you a few that I took on Saturday when we got them home. Their names are now Max (AKA-Philip) and Lady (AKA - Blondie).

You all are very nice and I certainly appreciate everything that you all do for these animals!

KEIKO

Hi! I'm not sure if any reading this email will remember me and my little boy, but we adopted Keiko Saturday, February 24th at the PetSmart in Trussville........ Here is a current picture of Keiko...As you can see, she seems to have taken over our office here at home (and of course we have let her!!!). She is settling in much better now. Not as much growling and hissing as before. The other cats come in and visit and sometimes she will follow me out, but if she gets a little spooked, she returns to her safe haven, but she knows Momma here won't let anything bother her. She is a big Momma's baby and that's just fine with me. As I type this, she is curled up on the desk to my left as happy as can be (the same spot she is in in the picture attached)...She's getting so rotten you can smell her a mile away!!!!! ..........Just wanted you all to know how Keiko was doing. God Bless You All for the wonderful work you do.

Sincerely, The Fitzpatricks

DUNDEE

Hello everyone,

We wanted to give you an update on Dundee! He is doing beautifully! He is at his perfect weight and has become the most affectionate little guy. He is now helping us visiting assisted living homes and making all of the residents happy. He loves to run and play and his best buddy, a Cardigan named Tank, and he have a blast. Thought I’d drop you a couple of pictures to share with your staff. I remember when I worked at the shelter in Gulfport, I got pretty attached to our dogs and cats and often wondered how they were getting along in their new forever homes. Hope this brightens your day and reminds you why we do animal rescue.

MABEL in her new home!

We recently received the following update on Mabel:

My puppy is doing great! Thanks for checking in. As you probably know, I did not adopt Gretchen, but a little stray (we think Sheltie/Dachsund/Other mix) without a name. Her name is Mabel now and she's doing very well. She was already housetrained perfectly when I got her (???) and the transition went pretty well, with the exception of some pretty bad separation anxiety, which has subsided a bit. She has gotten very comfortable and much more confident. When I walk her around my neighborhood everyone loves her. She has learned her name and knows the commands sit, stay, down, and can fetch and return a ball--big accomplishments! -- Anne Elizabeth

FRITZ with his new family!

CLARENCE (right) and his new Buddy Stewie!

Clarence (formerly known as Scruffy) is a very special dog to all of us - he came to the shelter as a stray, scared and alone. A wonderful family in Baltimore, MD found him on our website and adopted him! He flew out at 4:30 AM one moring on Continental Airlines and made a pit-stop in Houston, TX before arriving in Baltimore. Clarence now goes to doggie daycare, takes swimming lessons, and goes to the beach! Here's what his new mom has to say:

Thanks for taking the time to check in on Baby Clarence. He is a wild child, but we love him to bits! Have you ever heard the adage,"a tired dog is a good dog"? Well,Clarence is never tired! Actually, that's not true; he comes home from doggie day care pretty exhausted. He absolutely loves his brother Stewie and adores day care. The van comes to pick Stewie and Clarence up on Tuesdays,Wednesdays, and Thursdays--and Clarence starts crying and whining at least a half-hour before, staring out the window. We can barely get his leash on,he's so excited. He's pretty perplexed when Friday rolls around and he has to settle for a day at home with my husband!...What else can I tell you? Clarence plays with Stewie, oftentimes eats and drinks out of the same bowls with Stewie, sleeps with Stewie (and us), and enjoys hanging out at Starbucks and the bookshop at the beach. And he is very, very sweet and loving. If you'd like, you can see Clarence in action on the Pooch Cam at: www.gooddoggiedaycare.com
I suspect he is the only dog there who actually uses and enjoys the sliding board!

Thanks again & Keep in Touch! -- Rebecca & Clarence

SADIE at her new home!!

Sadie came to our shelter incredibly thin and heartworm positive. A wonderful lab-lover offered to pay for her heartworm treatment -- without this help, we would not have been able to help Sadie! Sadie was spayed, heartworm treated, and shortly after her treatment adopted by a wonderful family! We recently received the following email from her new mom:

Just wanted to fill you in on how we're doing on our 2 week anniversary. Sadie really does feel at home now (you were absolutely right about the two weeks). Actually though I noticed a big difference about 2 days ago. She is definitely asserting her independence and pushing boundries....but learns the house rules quickly. She is very smart!!! Cunningly smart, but gets cuter every day.
She had her first bath last weekend...she was so still I almost had to wonder if she was a show dog in her former life. Also, we had our first visit to the lake...I did keep her calm, but be assured, she LOVES water.....

Thanks again for taking such wonderful care of her!

Nancy

Ludie (formerly known as Harriet) came by the shelter July 1, 2006 to visit! She was adopted in 2005 and has a wonderful new home! She brought us doggie treats to give to all the other dogs in our shelter that are waiting for new homes!

GWEN at her new home!

Hi to all at the Shelter from the Weaver Family and Gwen! Here's a picture of Gwen at her new home in Trussville Alabama with two of "her" kids. CHOPPER - MOVED TO LOUISIANA!

Hi Friends! It's Chopper (the one with the tail)! Just wanted to send an update to let you know that my live down here in Louisiana is sweet!! You see me in this photo with my two people, Addie and Ainsle. As you may know, last week we celebrated Mardi Gras, and I was the center of the parade at our home! I have 3 house friends now, and they even occasionally share their feed with me!

I'm really busy here, so I'll sign off for now. Gotta go play with my fellow mutt friend Ace and my silly Dalmatian friend Mancha. My mom tells me she said thanks for all the great love and care you gave me. Keep up the good work!

Love
