Kiche (SCL) runs with a team!!! We started training a couple of days ago off the 4 wheeler. Finally enough snow on the road to make for good footing so we can run from the house. It is all uphill on the way and then we turn around and go downhill all the way home. We put Kiche in the first team.
Robin Loon
Misty Kiche (SCL)
Izzi Raisin
Kiche did not want to be in the team at first. She was fine with putting the harness on but didn't like being handled with hands over her head. We hooked her in by her collar until we were just ready to leave. She necklined and peddled backwards all the way up the first hill. Loon and Robin did their best to try and pull her along, but after several stops we realized that this wasn't going to work. I knew that if she just felt that "pull" she would "get it" but this wasn't the right time. I figured when we turned around we would put her back in the team for the downhill.
So Don carried her the rest of the way to the turn around. We put her back in the team....she started out necklining, then started running along, then started pulling. That was it...she was a sled dog!! Don said that he was asking Venus for her help and it made us both cry....for Venus and Kiche are well connected in life and death. (see previous blog from March). But Venus came through and Kiche worked hard the rest of the way home. She looked back a couple of times....seemed a bit nervous that a dog was behind her, but I'm sure she will work all this out and become a wonderful addition to our team. She is not a sprint dog, but I have several dogs that are small and not all that fast that Kiche will fit into a team.
Misty (SCL adoptee) has really blossomed this year. Last year as a yearling she was a bit wild and crazy....but the 2 times that we have run this fall, she is intensely focused and driven. She hates to stop and loves what she is doing. She continues to be a house dog most of the time.
Blackberry (SCL adoptee) also ran today. In the "big boy" team. 5 males and her. She also is a very driven worker and also sleeps in the house at night!! fun!
Jewel also got to run in a team today but you will have to read Don's blog to hear what he says about her.

Kiche (SCL) in the house.....the 3rd week of October and what little snow that we have had almost all melted away today with the warm weather.
As I sit here and type I have Kiche in the house. She is free to run around and is exploring the upstairs, laying for a bit on the quilt on the floor and now she is madly playing with Ivy, Misty and Izzi. She seems quite comfortable playing with them in the living room and that is nice to see. She is still a very skittish dog and I know that I couldn't catch her if she was outside loose, but being inside gives her the opportunity to interact with the other dogs and not be on a long flexi leash.
When I let all my dogs loose in the yard, Kiche has been on a 16 foot flexi leash. I am really amazed at how totally non-aggressive she is and the other dogs towards her. She will mingle amongst all the dogs and play a little, but it is hard on the leash. Ivy and Misty love to be outside and play with Kiche on her chain, but it is a real delight tonight to watch them wildly play in the house. FUN!!
Misty and BB, my SCL adoptees are house dogs at night. Misty is loose all day when I am here also. They have both come such a long way. BB is still the more timid of the 2 of them.
I'm soon going to go to my winter schedule at work so I can train the dogs and do more work with the shelter dogs. I'm really looking forward to getting Kiche in harness.
