Well...my first foster dog calamity. Blackberry half ripped off her outside toenail. I'm not sure how! She doesn't have any loose nails or screws sticking up on her dog house....I clipped it as short as I could, but she ripped it at the base and it was sticking into her pad. She was limping so I took her to Aurora today and they knocked her out and took it completely off! ouch! It will grow back luckily and she didn't break the toe. So she has become a total house dog for awhile with her foot wrapped up in blue vet wrap. Misty, my other SCL dog is shedding. But she loves to be brushed and her fur is thick and gorgeous.

Probably the last skijor of the season....
Don and I met up at Tom McGrane's house this morning and skijored around 6 miles from his house. We all had 3 dog teams. Tom had dragged the trail from his house and part of the 30 mile.
It was icy and hard in most places. I couldn't skate at all. Tom and Don were more successful at digging that edge in, but I was just along for the ride and double poling. The trail was excellent though if you can deal with hard pack and some ice!!! Tom led the way, I followed him and Don pulled up the back. It was great fun on a beautiful sunny morning.
My team was:

Loon Casper (adopted from the shelter 3 years ago)
Blackberry (SCL)

This was a great little team. The 3 of them aren't affected much by the heat. And going right after Tom, I spent a lot of time trying to snowplow on the ice to keep them slowed down! Casper continues to awe me. He has turned into such a good little dog. More friendly with people too. Actually let Tom pet him. Blackberry was loose dropped at the truck and she stays around and comes when I call her.

All in all, it was a very fun morning. But I think I'll put away my skis now.

Great trails greeted Don and I at Creamer's today. Some of the best trails of the year!!! (thanks to all the groomers from ASPA who have worked hard to keep the trails in fine shape)

We both took 2 teams out.

But first, Andy Warwick was there hooking up Licorice and Zip. I asked if he wanted to take Blackberry (SCL) too. So I pulled out my 3 dog skijor line and put BB in wheel. His dogs had the half harnesses on so it put BB really close. He tried to take off her neckline somewhere along the trail and she slipped her collar and almost slipped her harness. She isn't used to someone else handling her. He finally rigged up another neckline onto the tug line so that he had more of a fan hitch and they came home like that. She hasn't run for very many other people and she is still on the shy side. But I was glad that Andy got her out with her brother (Licorice).

I ran a 4 dog team first:
Chanel Loon
Beans Misty (SCL)

Misty did some jumping back and forth, but there weren't any tangles. It was a really fun run and all the dogs did great on a fabulous trail. We did 3.2 miles.

Don took out 2 teams, the second team had Casper in lead along with Raisin, and Millie was in wheel. It sounded like he had one of the best runs of the season. Casper, who I adopted from the shelter when he was 5 months of age (he was turned in emaciated and full of worms by a musher who said he didn't want to run!!!!) has turned into a great little leader. He is very driven and although he is tall and spindly with splayed front feet, he has good speed and can pull quite hard!!

I'm lamenting the coming warmer weather. This is just too much fun.
