May Update
The next SCL board meeting will be Tuesday May 13th at Taco King in Fairbanks near the Wendell Street Bridge on the old Steese. All are invited.

Even though it is coming into summertime, SCL volunteers will continue to run the new dogs coming into the shelter. It will all be done on the 4 wheeler and in the cool hours of the morning. We will continue to post all the dogs on the different email lists and continue to try and find forever homes for all the dogs.

SCL Board Update
The SCL board met last night and elected and confirmed board members and officers. The breakdown goes like this: Bruce McIntosh and Lisa Barraff were elected to terms that began retroactively January 1, 2008. Carol Kleckner and Laura Katucki were confirmed with terms that started on January 1, 2007, and Don Kiely to fill out a term that began on January 1, 2006. Board terms are three years, so that sets the expiration dates for the existing board members.

We also elected the 2008 slate of officers, all of whom are the incumbents: Don Kiely as President, Carol Kleckner as Vice President, Laura Katucki as Secretary, and Bruce McIntosh as Treasurer. Thanks to everyone who offered to serve another term!

SCL Update
The next SCL board meeting will be on Tuesday April 8th at 6 pm at College Coffeehouse. All are invited.

We have had a lot of recent interest in SCL dogs from all areas of the country. We are working on finding the perfect dog for these people that will fit into their lifestyle and the kinds of things they want to do with their new pup.

I think one of the most important guidelines that SCL is now following is to make a good match. Our reputation for finding a dog that is well suited to the needs of the new owners is very important. We see so many people adopting a dog from the shelter and bringing it back a week later because it "isn't working out" that we strive to not have this happen with an SCL dog. We can never be too obssessive about finding the right dog for the right person. It is important for both the person and for the dog.
