All of my dogs are caste off/second hand dogs from other kennels or
from the animal shelter. I have 21 dogs in my kennel plus 2 foster dogs
at the moment. They are all neutered and spayed. I have been skijoring
and sprint racing for the past 7 years. I have had wonderful success
in the racing world with my second chance dogs. I won the 4 dog class
in the Limited North American in 1998 and placed second in 2003. I won
the LNAC 3 dog skijoring in 2004 and broke a track record on the first
day. I have many top 3 places in the Gold Run, the North Pole races
and the Limited North American. I've been the points champion for the
Alaska Dog Musher's Associations preliminary races for the past 5 years
in one or more categories. My joy is taking a dog that isn't working
out for someone else and finding it's true potential. My dogs are my
family, with many of them sleeping inside at night and the others sleeping
in a warm dog barn.
I truly believe that there are many dogs out there that people don't
see their true potential. Many dogs are brought into the shelter without
the owner knowing or understanding what the dog's capabilities really
are. I love to take those dogs and prove their merit. Each sled dog
has a place, whether it be in a racing team or in a recreational team.
My fastest dog came from the animal shelter 4 years ago!!
I have lived in Alaska for 20 years and will continue working with the
second chance dogs. Don Kiely, another foster home and my partner, contiunes
to support me in my endeavors to work with the caste off dogs. |
