Welcome to the Second Chance LeagueThe Second Chance League is a group of Fairbanks mushers focused on finding permanent homes for sled dogs. SCL is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. We work with dogs exclusively from the municipal animal shelter in Fairbanks, evaluate them, foster them, and train them with our own dog teams. Many of these dogs have excellent bloodlines. Our goal is for the dogs to be successful. We strive to match the right dog to the right owner. Latest news

The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday March 13th, 6 pm at Player's Grill.
The board meeting last night brought out a hearty round of discussion as to the future of SCL. The Fairbanks Animal Shelter has started to do some new and different things for the sled dogs. For one thing, they are holding the dogs a lot longer depending on space availability. 2 pointer mix sisters got adopted after being there for a month!! The shelter has also lined up several "shelter fosters." These folks can foster directly through the shelter and not have to go through SCL. The dog is always available for adoption through the shelter. In the last month the volunteers that have been working and running the shelter dogs have found homes for many of them directly from the shelter. This means the role of SCL will be very different, probably without as many dogs pulled into rescue foster care. So, is SCL still needed? That is a question that many of the board members and people that attended the meeting are mulling over and thinking about. Please attend the next board meeting. SCL needs a lot of input as to where the organization is heading in the future. |
