Foster A Pet
The New Rochelle Humane Society is always in need of temporary foster homes for cats, kittens, dogs and puppies. Each foster home requirement is different.
A few of our most common foster placements needed are listed below:
Mother Cat and Kittens: Although this sounds like a lot of work, it is actually the easiest of all our foster placements! Provide mom with her own room,
litter box, food and water, and she does all the work of feeding, cleaning, and caring for her kittens! Supplies and 24 hour support provided.
Orphan Kittens (one day to five weeks old): Kittens in this category need to be kept clean, warm, and need to be bottle fed every couple of hours. We require a one to eight
week commitment, depending, of course, on the age of the kittens. Supplies and 24 hours support provided. Never bottle fed a kitten? Training is also provided!
Orphan Kittens (five to eight weeks old): Kittens in this category require less work as they are able to eat on their own, but they are still too young to be adopted.
They need to be fed four times a day, generally every six hours. We require a one to three week commitment, depending, of course, on the age of the kittens. Supplies and 24 hour
support provided.
Kittens in Need of Socialization: The kittens in this category need one-on-one socialization and usually range from two to four months of age. We require a one to two
week commitment, depending, of course, on the progress made by the kittens. Supplies and 24 hour support provided.
Cats and Kittens with Upper Respiratory Infections: Cats and kittens in this category need daily medication and time to recover. They must also be kept separate from
all other cats, to avoid the risk of spreading germs. We require a two to four week commitment, depending, of course, on the condition of the cats or kittens. Supplies and
24 hour support provided.
Dogs with Behavioral Concerns: These dogs are stressed because they are living in a kennel environment. They must be placed in a foster home with someone who has
experience working with dogs. We require a minimum of a two week commitment. Supplies and 24 hour support provided.
We currently have a need for foster homes for kittens 5 to 7 weeks of age. They are eating soft kitten food on their own. We are looking for a one to three week commitment depending on the age of the kitten.
We are also looking for a foster home for Mindy, a very pregnant poodle mix dog that is due in about a week. Placement would be for about two months.
All supplies and 24 hour support are available to anyone wishing to foster any of our little ones. If interested, please contact Dana.Rocco@verizon. net
