Help Broken PuppiesThe Murphy and Rooty Broken Puppy ProgramHelp Broken Puppies

An anonymous donor established this program in honor of Murphy and Rooty, two Rawhide dogs that came in with severe birth defects requiring extensive surgery.  Rawhide Rescue’s mission is to help dogs that fall between the gaps in the shelter system.  Among these cases are the injured and sick puppies that are either left at the shelter or found on the streets.  Many have broken legs from being hit by cars or abused by unkind people.  Some have skin diseases that can be cured if given proper veterinary care.  Others have viral or bacterial infections that are contagious and require extensive treatment and even isolation. For these sweet and innocent dogs that are just starting their journey in life, we want to provide a safe and happy environment for them to heal.  We want them to know that the world really can be fun and full of warm laps and long cuddles.  If you are interested in financially helping to nurse these babies back to health, please contribute to Murphy and Rooty’s Broken Puppy Program.

Meet some of our special dogs...

MoogieMoogie is a 15 week old, blind puppy that we rescued from an Peteyowner who wasn't happy that Moogie wasn't "perfect" and kept running into walls. We brought Moogie in and placed him with one of our fosters who already has three of our deaf pups. She has been working with him to build up his confidence and teach him how to make his way in the world. He needs to learn how to navigate steps and stairs, find his water and food bowls, and to find his bed so that he can rest. His loving foster mom is torn between picking him up and helping him or giving him the tools to do it on his own, but she is teaching him how to be more independent. Can you blame her for that struggle--just look at that sweet face!! Moogie loves to cuddle and plays wonderfully with the other dogs in the home, especially Petey (the beautiful white boy on the left), who is one of the deaf dogs who is very tolerant of puppy behavior.

We are in the process of having Moogie evaluated by a veterinary eye specialist to tell us whether he will be able to help our little guy gain some sight. As you can imagine, Moogie's care is intensive in these first few months and, if we can help him gain some of his sight he will be that much better. Will you help us help Moogie?

Zoltan31ZOLTAN

Zoltan is one of 7 lovely puppies that arrived and were in the care of Rawhide.  Zoltan was likely injured right after birth and has a crushed vertebrae that gives him a hunched look. A miracle happened and Zoltan's spinal cord was only minimally injured, allowing Zoltan to get around quite well, although not quite like his siblings.  We could not allow him to be put to sleep because someone or something damaged him so badly.

This brave little puppy has already been to see Dr. Zolton (his "almost namesake") who declared him a miracle.  Zoltan will require a quiet home (no children or frisky dogs) where he can recouperate, hopefully fully although we really don't know.  There is a good chance that he'll live a long and happy life and that's where you come in.  We are looking for a home (foster or permanent) where this sweet boy can relax, take leashed walks and go for swims in order to re-build his strength and health.  He will need to go back to Dr. Zolton, in the meantime, he wants to be a happy, playful (gentle, gentle) puppy that can feel the love of a caring family.  Contact us for more information at rawhiderescue@hotmail.com or call (908) 581-3417.

SUPPORT OUR SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM
paypal
Rawhide Rescue is dedicated to providing safe havens for dogs who find themselves without a home, regardless of age, size or  breed. We know that many families who want to add a puppy to their family would consider adoption if more puppies were available. Due to the overpopulation of dogs in Arkansas, even puppies are routinely killed.  Thus, Rawhide has started a program transporting homeless and unwanted puppies from Arkansas to our network of volunteer  foster homes in New Jersey, where we work to adopt them to loving homes like yours. Bringing puppies from Arkansas helps  us to fulfill a part of our mission, finding great dogs  wonderful homes. However our mission extends beyond finding  homes, as we work to stop unwanted dogs from coming into the  world. Arkansas does not have a robust spay/neuter program for their dogs, and thus a large number of dogs continue to breed  and exacerbate the problem by having litter after litter. Our goal is that for every dog we rescue from Arkansas, we  spay or neuter a dog left behind in the state. Thus we continue  to address the root cause of homeless animals, overpopulation. A single male and female and their offspring can produce  thousands of offspring in six years. Rawhide Rescue's  spay/neuter efforts help reduce the overpopulation and related  animal suffering. We would love for you to help, and to help in the name of your dog - it could be their father, cousin or sibling left behind. If you would like to donate a spay/neuter certificate in your  dog's name, please click on the paypal link above.

Sponsor ANY of our Rawhide Pets

Join our program to sponsor a Rawhide Pet until it becomes adopted. Now you can sponsor your own Rawhide pet! For a monthly donation of $25, you can select your own special pet to sponsor. This program helps us with the basic care of an animal, including food and veterinary costs.

We are often contacted by people who ask us about a particular dog.  Regretfully they are unable to adopt due to personal circumstances.  Our sponsorship program allows you to know you have a role in the well-being and care of "your" pet while in foster.

While many of our volunteers are foster parents, we have lots of opportunities to volunteer for those who cannot have foster pets (or for "failed fosters", those who end up adopting their foster pets!). Fundraising, helping handle dogs at adoption days, making biscuits and goodies to sell, event planning and grant writing are all options for additional volunteer opportunities. We also can use professional skills, from lawyers and graphic artists, to accountants and dog groomers. If you have a desire to help dogs in any capacity, we will find a spot for you!

  • Matching Gift
Many companies have Matching Gift programs and/or programs that encourage their employees to assist non-profits in the community. Why don't you find out if you, too, work for a "giving" organization or maybe you can start a program in your workplace. Adoptive mom, Melissa, began a program at the school where she teaches and Rawhide Rescue has benefited through donations of food and supplies.!

Rawhide Rescue is an all-volunteer federally qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization whose primary mission is to rescue dogs, regardless of their age, medical needs or other conditions.  We rescue dogs who have "fallen through the cracks" in the animal sheltering system left by private and municipal shelters, as well as other pet rescue groups due to the overwhelming number of homeless animals in our communities.
