Special and Urgent Needs

The saint(s) and/or honorary saint(s) on this page are presently being cared for by NCSBGRR. Their condition is such that they are not presently available for adoption; however, depending on their condition, they could be available for placement in the "Foster Family Program".

If you can help these wonderful animals in any way, please contact us.

Toga's latest updates:

Toga

Sometimes it's not always the best thing to get what you wish for. Toga is one of those cases. We hadn't so much as said, "Please, let the next dog we bring into rescue be heartworm negative, and if at all possible none of the other horrible parasites either".

Well, we got exactly what we asked for.... maybe we should have thought about that statement a little bit longer. You see, Toga may not have heartworms or any other parasites - but he is going to be a major expense to get healthy.

Toga

Toga came into rescue with a severe hemotoma in his ear from the constant shaking trying to rid himself the the flea infestation. Instead of getting rid of the fleas he managed to burst the blood vessels in his ear, requiring medical care.

So, why would we post a dog in the "Urgent Needs" section because of something 'relatively' minor you ask? Well you see Toga's problems don't end there - we honestly wish they did.

Toga, has one of the worst cases of bi-lateral hip dysplasia we have seen in all our time of rescue. Our plan is to have him evaluated to determine if he is a candidate for total hip replacement surgery.

Toga's Ear

Hip dysplasia is a condition more common in large breed dogs, it is a deterioration of the hip joint and commonly leads to painful arthritis and can even lead to total loss of use of the legs. Canine hip dysplasia is a genetic disorder, and often the condition is not treated before the dog is overcome with extremely painful arthritis.

Toga is presently being treated for the hemotoma and we are presently having Toga's condition evaluated to determine the best course of treatment.

UPDATE - Toga needs a hip.

Those four words were devastating for us to hear, but sadly they were expected. So now, we're faced with what will be our hardest challenge ever - finding the money to pay for hip replacement surgery. We can deal with providing him a safe and loving temporary home - but finding the estimated $4,500.00 to replace his hip is, well... out of the question. Yes, we dig deep every day to provide care for the saints (and honorary saints) in rescue - but our pockets just aren't that deep.

Our hope is to raise the needed funding for Toga's hip replacement by the end of 2009. If you can help - even if only spreading the word about Toga and his need please do. We are looking for fund raising ideas, and have plans in the works for a yard sale in the spring - we welcome you donations for the sale. Additionally, we are requesting your help in brainstorming ideas for fund raisers, send us your best ideas!

If you can donate, please use the 'ChipIn link' below (or in Toga's bio) so everyone can see how close we are to being able to provide the hip replacement surgery for a very special saint.

Presently we are looking Toga as being our most expensive rescue ever. Not only monetarily but also in the amount of time he will be in rescue. Our goal is to have his surgery by Christmas of 2009. But it all depends on the funding.

Presently we have in rescue several dogs that are undergoing treatment for heartworm disease. These treatments are not only expensive, but also very hard on the dogs physically. Please consider making a small donation to help offset the costs involved in treating these dogs.

In addition to those already in rescue, there are saints in need of rescue, we have a rather lengthy 'waiting list'. At the present time, we simply do not have a qualified foster home to place the dog(s).

We are urgently requesting past adopters of NCSBR to contact us if you
are willing to become foster homes for these needy dogs.

Others interested in joining the Foster Family Program are requested to complete the standard adoption application and specify in the notes section that you are interested in joining the Foster Family Program.

Together we gave several saints a very happy ending.

Everyone together has made a difference.

NCSBGRR has always been a small rescue, and we have made but a small dent, but to saints like Molly, Trish, Lily, Sissy, Captain, and Chester it truly meant they have a chance at life. We could not have provided the necessary care for these awesome Saints without the support of the community.

Check out the Remember Me? section for updates on some of our past Urgent Needs Saints.

Words cannot begin to express the appreciation we have for all the donations of not only money, but food, toys, bedding, bowls, and other supplies. Together we did make a huge difference for such a small rescue.

We use Animal Hospital of Fayetteville for most of our vet work. The urgent needs Saints various medical conditions can be verified by calling them directly at (910) 323-1535.

If you desire to talk directly to us, please feel free to contact us at any of the email or phone number contacts throughout the web site.

Could you please find it in your heart and pocketbook to make a donation to help these saints and the others like them get the medical attention they need in order to find a forever home?
