How To Adopt

The focus of the GCHS adoption program is to find permanent loving homes for every adoptable cat and dog.
The Adoption Process
View animals up for adoption
  • Providing a home for a cat or dog is a lifelong commitment.
  • Look at the animals we have up for adoption.
  • If you see a cat or dog you are interested in call or e-mail to schedule a visitation appointment: 218-685-6220

2 week trial period
Review Our Policies:
  • If you are interested in adoption, you sign an adoption agreement agreeing to treat the cat or dog as if you had formally adopted them.
  • At this time you give us a check or cash for the adoption fee and spaying deposit. We will write you a refund check if you return the animal.
  • If something happens to the cat or dog in your care, you forfeit all money deposited with us for safekeeping.
  • If after 2 weeks you decide there is no way you will return her we’ll send you the formal adoption papers and medical records.
  • If you decide it is not going to work out during the 2 weeks, we will take them back and return your money provided the animal is in as good condition as when they left.
All animals must be spayed or neutered.
  • If a cat or dog you wish to adopt has not yet been spayed or neutered, a $40.00 deposit is required, which you will receive back upon proof of spaying/neutering from the veterinarian.

Follow Up
We try to check on all our animals after adoption to ensure they are doing well with their new family. We would love to post more successful adoption stories on our website. If you have a successful adoption story you would like to share please send it to gchumsoc@runestone.net. Please include your first name, your animal’s name, and a photograph of your animal.
