Happy Tails
Lucky
Hi this is Kris & I just wanted to drop a line to say that Lucky
is an awesome little dog!!! I've attached some pictures of him for anyone
who wants to see.
He is a very good guard dog, barks at every sound, he is very protective
of his new "family". He loves to leap from sofa to sofa &
romp around & chase his toys. He also loves to drag out one of Cali's
old sleeping bags from her room & play with it.

Lucky has no problems with food agression, rawhides or toys. We have made
a very consious effort to take his toys & rawhides out of his mouth
then immediatley return them to him & also stand by his food dish
& pet him. He does wonderfully.
He does growl at strangers that come to our door, or even on our deck.
He makes peaple think twice! It takes him a few minutes to sniff out the
newcomers & then is usally ok but still shy.
He's visited a nursing home & met all the residents there & warmed
right up to all of them. they just loved him & marveled at his agility
with only 3 legs.
He also enjoyed a trip across town to PetCo. & PetSmart for new toys
& a frisbee & made lots of friends. Children really enjoy seeing
him especially when they realize he only has 3 legs.
He's now a member of the K9Cola dog park & passed his recall test
wonderfully. He knows who his owners are & comes when called. In fact
it's harder to get him to leave our sides then calling him back. You cannot
go far without him right at your side springing up on you. You would think
he's swallowed a bag of mexican jumping beans. At the dog park he fit
right in with all other dog breeds & sizes. He shows not aggression
or intimidation unless barked or growled at then he hides behind your
legs or runs away. He enjoyed a Halloween Dog Biscut Hunt & came home
with 2 bags of biscuts he found in the field.
We have learned to becarful of taking him on car rides after he's had
food or snacks as he has thrown up 2x's in the back of the car. Luckily
I had towels & had just boughten pet cleaners for upholstrey!!!
He does run REALLY REALLY fast & can LEAP VERY HIGH, I can see how
he might've escaped & gotten into his car accident. He is quick to
chase squirrels, birds, cat's, anything smaller. We do let him run but
always keep him on leash when around roads, public areas. We defiantly
know that even with his 3 legs speed is NO problem for Lucky!!!!
This was the best decision we could have made. He is just a wonderful
dog! We are so happy to have him in our lives. What a blessing. Thank
you so much for Lucky!!!!
Sincerly
Kris

Kayak
Greetings to everyone at the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter!!
Attached are six pictures of Kayak from late winter and early spring.
We apologize for not getting them sent to you sooner. Kayak is adapting
very well to us and his companion, Koani. Koani has also adjusted well
to Kayak, and they have a lot of fun together. We have taken many walks,
truck rides, and given him a bath (which he hated). He loves to wander
through the creek and ponds, and this time of year, he is getting lots
of rest time.
We trust all is going well for your staff, please share these pictures
with everyone who helped make our adoption of Kayak a success story. We
absolutely love him!!
Take care,
Kelley & Chad B

TrixieDear Steven's Memorial Animal Shelter,
We just wanted to update you on how Trixie is. She is doing wonderfully
in our home. She loves to run around our house, climb on the top of our
couch, sit in the sink, and lay beside our son, Noah. She is the most
playful cat we have ever known. Trixie has filled our lives with such
joy.
We bought her a fuzzy cat bed to lay in, but she would rather lay in
the sink or Noah's high chair, and if she is not there, she is at the
bottom of our bed, attacking our toes under the covers at night. She has
been found to steal hair ties and play with plastic bags too.
Although she does not enjoy her nails being clipped, she has been doing
pretty well with it, and brushing her goes wonderfully as well, except
for on her tummy. We can't wait until Noah is old enough to enjoy Trixie
as much as we do! She takes care to not step on Noah, and lays close,
but not too close beside him. Our neighbors have a nineteen month old
daughter who has tested Trixies patience, she pulled her tail and whiskers,
and Trixie just laid there and took it. We were so surprised with how
mellow Trixie can be. Someday we plan to adopt another kitten from Stevens
Memorial Animal Shelter.
We just wanted to thank you for saving this cat, raising her right, and
blessing our home with her.

Mickie
Hello
Just wanted to let you know how we are doing. We picked up Mickie on Thursday
night and I must say I had my reservations. My husband was so set on getting
a dog and Mickie wasn't really what we were looking for but we discussed
a future with Mickie and decided to take the plunge. Thank you for the
opportunity. I can't imagine why anyone would let Mickie get away from
them. She has really had our hearts since she got in the car. We took
home a scared little mop and we have a beautiful little princess. On Friday
we took her to the vet clinic to find out how much she weighed and find
out how much to feed her. While we were there they looked over her records
and gave her a rabies shot and two others. It was emotional for me since
it was the first time I had been back there since we lost Champ and I
shed a few tears. Everyone there was so glad we decided to adopt Mickie.
We then went to the groomers to find out when we could get in and they
worked her in that day. They also expressed the fact they were also glad
to meet Mickie and how much they missed Champ. They were wondering why
he hadn't been in. It never occured to us to let them know. Micki came
out looking beautiful. John wasn't sure about the white pearl nail polish
but we told him a girl has to look her best.

Mickie has settled in well and seems to be enjoying her new life. She
has only had one "wetting accident" since coming to live with
us. We had been outside and done both but she must not have drained completely
an went about 5 min after our walk. When she goes to the door, we take
her out and also about 20 min after she eats. She has learned sit. When
she comes in she sits and lets us wipe her paws. She loves to follow me
around and I can't leave the room without her. We broke down and bought
a wire crate (so she could see out) and we were debating on using it when
she just got in while John was finishing up and she took a 1/2 hour nap.
So I guess we will be ok with it. This training thing may be working both
ways. At night she goes upstairs with us and sleeps on a blanket on the
floor and sometimes she gets in with us. Usually when she is ready to
get up and go out. We took her to Des Moines and left her with our grandchild
while we picked up a new chair we had ordered. They walked and played
and when we got home she kept going upstairs and getting on the bed. I
think it wore her out! Last night our youngest grandchild (15MO) came
and brought Mickie a toy and they played with it and ran around the house.
We were pleased Mickie likes to play with the kids. Carli even fed her
a treat. Mickie and the stray kitty have also become friends. Mickie has
made herself at home and I can't tell you how much joy she has given us
already. Thank you for letting Mickie come home with us.
Mickie helps around the house also. She is bringing the socks downstairs
one at a time!!
Thanks again.
Sandi and John B
I have attached some pictures so you can see what a beautiful girl we
have.
