Maddie's Pet Rescue Project

Maddie’s Fund ®, The Pet Rescue Foundation is a family foundation funded by PeopleSoft founder Dave Duffield and his wife, Cheryl, to help create a "no-kill" nation. The first step is to develop programs that guarantee loving homes for all healthy shelter dogs and cats throughout the country. The next step will be to save the sick and injured pets in animal shelters nationwide. Maddie’s Fund is named after the family’s beloved Miniature Schnauzer Maddie, who passed away in 1997.

Every year, there are thousands of homeless and unwanted animals in Tuscaloosa County.  A few of these animals are rescued and adopted into loving homes.  But many, many more are abandoned, dumped by the road, left in remote areas, or simply left to fend for themselves.  Many of them end up at the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter, where all too many are euthanized. The Maddie's Pet Rescue Project wants to stop unnecessary animal deaths.  The shelters and rescue groups that are part of this project are working together to find homes for adoptable animals, and to increase the number of pets spayed/neutered so fewer unwanted animals are born.

Maddie's Fund

Maddie’s Fund has awarded a seven-year, $2 million challenge grant to two projects in Tuscaloosa County:

Maddie’s Pet Rescue Project is a coalition of local animal rescue organizations (The Humane Society of West Alabama, T-Town P.A.W.S., and ADAR) and the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter. As part of this project, Maddie's Fund has also funded the Maddie's Adoption Room inside Pet Supplies "Plus".

Maddie’s Spay/Neuter Project is administered by the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association (ALVMA). It provides up to $800,000 for low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for pets of people who receive Medicaid assistance and who reside in Tuscaloosa County.
